6th Grade Reading

This week marks the beginning of MAP testing. Please ensure that your student(s) are well-rested and “ready-to-go” in the morning. They will also need at least two sharpened #2 pencils and a silent reading book. We visited the library as a class on Thursday of last week. Thank you for reminding your kids that this is their opportunity to show what they have learned. 

6th Grade Health

Health class will be discussing the dangers of alcohol next week. We will have shortened classes due to MAP testing, but should be able to discussChapter 10, Lesson 1 and do some activities in class.

Mrs. Lettau’s 6th Grade Math

Students will be taking the MAP test this week, so some of our classes will be used to test. On the days we have class, we will be completing our math dictionary, studying the terms, and begin working on word problems.

6th Grade Social Studies

Students will finish a short chapter (Ch 12) on Alexander the Great by Thursday and will start Ch 13 on early Rome. Ch 13 Vocab and worksheets will be started on Friday. Since there is to be no homework given during MAP testing, students will be working on these in class over the next several days. 6th Grade Art

This class will continue working on their plaster masks. They will be painting this week so I suggest that they have an old shirt to protect their school clothes.

6th Grade RISE

Medieval Feast Monday March 30 at 6:00 p.m. Remember, attendance at the feast by anyone other than the students is reservation only. Reservations were due last Friday Mar. 20. Students should be at school no later than 5:00 p.m. but are welcome to stay after school until the feast to help set up. Parents and teachers who are helping, THANK YOU! Next week’s RISE classes: Tuesday, mostly MAP testing. Thursday, reflection writing on the feast and the Medieval Unit.

6th Grade Vocal

Vocal students are beginning everyday with vocal warm-ups and sight singing. In the vocal sight-singing books, sixth graders have progressed through all of the notes of the scale and have discussed ties. Last week sixth grade vocal students completed test #19. Students will continue with theory worksheets in class. Sixth graders are also singing several new pieces of music. Please contact me if you have any

Students in PE have been completing a dance unit. We have been learning and practicing a variety of large group/social dances. During MAP testing we will be playing a variety of team games.

6th Grade Band

Practice cards are due on April 3rd. Each student is required to practice 100 minutes each week and get their practice card signed by a parent/guardian. We are now working very hard on our sheet music to prepare for contest in April and our concert in May!

If your child needs supplies such as reeds, a book, or valve oil, I can get those items for them through Meyer Music.
