6th grade Exploratory Music FINAL PROJECTS
All students will complete a final project. This will be differentiated and will allow the students a chance to choose something from each of the weeks to focus on as their final project. The choices for the project will be:
- Students may choose a song of their liking to sing for the class. They must use appropriate vocal development skills learned during class and bring in a karaoke CD to sing with OR Students may play an instrument of their choice for the class. They should be well prepared on this instrument and be able to discuss details about both the song they will be performing and specifics of the instruments. (This option is best suited for those students who have studied privately or are self-teaching themselves at a moderately high level of proficiency) Students either singing or playing an instrument will be evaluated on their competence and professionalism during performance.
- Students will make a collage or poster about “What music means to Me.” The project will be evaluated for preparedness, thought, detail, and neatness.
- Students will write a paper about what life is like for them during one of the music eras discussed. They will answer the questions, who was a popular composer of the time, what was daily life like, did they go to school, did they have electricity, where did they live, and what was the music they listened to and how was it a part of daily life in their time period. Appropriate grammar and sentence structure is expected. Project should be turned in neatly typed or printed by hand. No erasure marks or crossed out words should be visible.
- Students will research a musician or group of their choice. They will write a brief biography of their choice and create a visual to go along with their writing. Appropriate grammar and sentence structure is expected. Project should be turned in neatly typed or printed by hand. No erasure marks or crossed out words should be visible.
- Students will chart the music of commercials. They will profile 5 different commercials and discuss the type of music used, instruments used in the song, its tempo, the mood of the commercial, whether or not it was a “jingle” or back ground music. They will then determine if the music helped or hurt the product. They may either write this in a narrative or display it on a poster.
