Sub: Tele-density and Market Share as on 30.06.2012.
During June 2012, 1.92 million telephone connections & 2.03 million Wireless connections have been provided in the country taking the total telephone connections in the country to 962.82 million as on 30th June, 2012. During May 2012, 0.36 million broadband connections were added taking the total broadband connections in the country to 14.31 million as on 31.05.2012.
The tele-density & market share of all other telecom operators is enclosed.
It is seen that:
(1) For telephone services:
(i) The total telephone connection as on 30.06.2012 is 962.82 million, out of which 119.99 million is provided by BSNL.
(ii) BSNL is at 4th position as an operator with Market share of 12.46%. BSNL market share has increased to 0.02% during the month of June 2012 and during 2012-13 (upto 30.06.2012) decreased by 0.24%.
(iii) BSNL has added 0.45 million connections during the month of June 2012. This works out to 23.68% of the total connection (1.92 million) added in the country.
(iv) BSNL was at 7th position in the new total connections added in June 2012 and 11th position during FY 2012-13 (upto June 2012).
(v) In the financial year 2012-13, BSNL has added -1.00 million connections.
(2) For Wireless Service:
(a) For total Wireless Service:
(i) The total connection as on 30.06.2012 is 931.42 million, out of which 98.28 million is provided by BSNL.
(ii) BSNL is at 5th position as an operator with Market share of 10.55%. BSNL market share has increased to 0.04% during the month of June 2012 and during 2012-13 (upto 30.06.2012) decreased by 0.16%.
(iii) BSNL has added 0.56 million connections during the month of June 2012. This works out to 27.73% of the total connection (2.03 million) added in the country.
(iv) BSNL was at 4th position in the new total connections added in June 2012 and 9th position during FY 2012-13 (upto June 2012).
(v) The Wireless industry has grown by 1.23% in terms of connections upto the month of June 2012. Relatively, BSNL has declined by 0.24%.
(vi) In the financial year 2012-13 (upto June 2012), BSNL has added -0.24 million connections, as compared to 1.89 million connections added in corresponding period of previous year.
(b) Proportion of VLR subscribers:
(i) The total VLR Subscribers as on 31.05.2012 is 689.35 million, which comes to 74.17% of total wireless telephone connections.
(ii) In terms of %age of active subscriber, BSNL is at 8th position with 54.46% active connections.
(iii) Idea leads the list in %age of active subscriber with 92.33%, followed by Airtel 91.21%, Vodaphone 88.99%, Reliance 66.49% and Tata 57.77%.
(iv) The graphical depiction of Proportion of VLR Subscriber, service provider wise is given at Annexure-11.
(3) For Broadband(DSL) services:
(i) BSNL has added 0.12 million connections, which is 32.06% of the total connection (0.36 million) added in the country during month of May 2012.
(ii) BSNL has grown by 2.34% upto the month of May 2012 corresponding to broadband industry growth (3.77%) during the same period.
(iii) In the financial year 2012-13, BSNL has added 0.21 million connections. This works out to 40.18% of the total connections (0.52 million) added in the country.
(iv) BSNL is at 1st position as an operator with Market share of 63.73% as on 31.05.2012. BSNL market share has decreased by 0.82% during the month of May 2012 and 0.87% during 2012-13 (upto 31.05.2012).
(4) Summary:
(i) The tele-density in the country is 78.55% with Kolkata License area at top (173.07%) and Bihar License area at lowest (45.12%) as on 30.06.2012. The Broadband-density in the country is 1.17% out of which BSNL’s share is 0.74% as on 31.05.2012.
(ii) BSNL holds 1st position as an operator with total number of telephone connections in a single license area viz. Kerala Circle.
(iii) In total number of mobile connections, BSNL has No.2 position in 2 License areas viz. Kerala and Orissa Circles.
