Internet Safety Curriculum by Grade

(E-rates funds for the county are tied to providing this instruction to every student.)

Use the guide below to decide how your school will handle internet safety instruction. Each student should receive appropriate instruction so that he/she is able to “surf safely”.

Grades K-2

Topics for Discussion

Kindergarten – How to be safe online, Adults should assist when kindergarten students are online, Introduce concept of e-mail and “don’t talk to strangers online” concept.

Grade 1 & 2– How to be safe online, Age appropriate strategies for handling uncomfortable online situations, Internet safety tips, Appropriate online behavior and netiquette,

a. Give all students internet safety/netiquette bookmarks.*

b. Give out internet safety info to parents and teachers and/or put in school newsletter. Hand out internet safety brochures to parents at open house.*

a. Present K-2 NetSmartz interactive CD, (every school has this)

a. Students will create video commercials sharing internet safety tips which may be aired on morning announcements.

b. Students will plan and carry out an internet safety skit for other students on a specific aspect of internet safety.

c. Review specific internet safety tips on the morning announcements over a series of days.
