50+ AND 60+STATE TOURNAMENT RULES
AS OF 1/21/08
ASA SENIOR RULES WILL APPLY WITH THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATIONS:
- AGE REQUIREMENT - All players must be at least 50 (for the 50’s) and 60 (for the 60’s) during the year. If a player’s age is challenged, he must produce a driver’s license or other valid proof of age.
- ELIGIBILITY - Only NJSSA teams can compete.
- ROSTER–No players can be added from other teams.
- DEADLINE FOR ROSTERS– Team rosters and league dues must be submitted to Howie Marlin by June 15th. Teams submitting rosters after that date will not be eligible to participate in the tournament.
- FORFEIT FEE–A $100 forfeit fee check must accompany the Roster. The check will be returned at the end of the Tournament, if the team plays all assigned games.
- PLAYER ELIGIBILITY - A player must play in at least 5 regular season games to be eligible to play on the team he is playing with in the state tournament. All team managers are required to bring their league team score book to the Tournament. A player must play in a league that is a member of the NJSSA. There will be no medical exceptions.
- TOURNAMENT TEAM SHIRTS - All players on a team must have the same color shirts, with a number on the back of each shirt.
- NUMBER OF TEAMS - A maximum of 24 teams will be accepted with up to 4 teams being accepted from each County. If a county enters fewer than four teams, other Counties can add teams up to a maximum of 24 teams. COUNTIES: Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean and Union
- SEEDING OF TEAMS - Seeding and placing of teams will be determined by the Tournament Committee.
- FORFEIT TIME - Forfeit is game time. Allowances will be made due to late running games.
- HOME TEAM - Coin flip for home team on day 1. On day 2 the highest seeded team is home team. If two (2) out of three (3), highest seed is home for game 1, and the “IF” game
- MERCY RULE – The 12 run mercy rule will be invoked once the losing team has batted at least 5 times.
- TIME LIMIT - Teams will be notified at one hour that the next inning will be the open and last inning.
- CHAMPIOINSHIP GAMES - No mercy rule or time limit in Championship game. If Championship is best of three, only games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be considered Championship games.
- NUMBER OF PLAYERS - Eleven defensive players in the field for the 60’s and ten for the 50’s. A team may bat as many hitters as players in the field, but must have a minimum of 9 players to start and finish the game.
- SLOT OUT - If a player leaves the game and is not replaced, an out is recorded EACH TIME HE IS DUE UP. Exception: Player leaving due to injury. No Slot Out. Injured player CANNOT return during the game
- FIGHTING–Players ejected for fighting will be ejected from the field and the Tournament. If a team has fewer than 9 players, a forfeit will result.
- CONTACT WITH UMPIRE – Striking or pushing an umpire will be ruled a FORFEIT, loss of forfeit fee and TEAM is eliminated from the Tournament.
- PROTESTS – Will be decided ASAP by the Umpire in Chief and/or theTournament Director and/or a Tournament Committee member.
- GAME SPEED-UP – After 1st inning, no infield and pitcher gets only one warm up pitch.
- EVEN + 5 RUN RULE – The EVEN PLUS 5 RUN rule will be used with the last inning open.
- TEAM PARTICIPATION – A player can play for only ONE team. VIOLATION; Team ejection and loss of forfeit fee. Managers have the responsibility to see that their players are playing ONLY on their team.
- NUMBER OF DIVISIONS – The number of divisions used each year will be based on the number of teams entered and the decision will be made by the Tournament Committee
