6 major tips for studying for the Mid-Term
I. Study the vocabulary and grammar that we focused on in each unit. Make a special note of new or difficult French 3 words. Make flashcards, slide shows, quizlet, etc.
- Last Summer – What did you do last summer? 1
past tense (passé compose)
Vacation vocabulary-staying home, sleeping in, going on vacation
Summer activity vocabulary: ER verbs
Summer weather & clothes
Prepositions with geographical places
Vocabulary for times of the day, also yesterday, tomorrow, last week, next month, etc
Adverbs of frequency: every day, always, sometimes, rarely, never
All question words: including “quoi” which is WHAT when it’s an object: with what?
He’s taking what?
- La maison – What is your house like?
Types of homes
Present tense verbs of chores
Vocabulary for outside the home: garden, yard, sidewalk, barn, etc.
Vocabulary for the rooms and levels of a home
What is in the house: furniture, appliances, goods
Prepositions of placement: where things are located
- La routine – What is your routine like and how does it differ on the weekends?
pronominal verbs in past, present, and immediate future tenses:
I had fun, I’m having fun, I’m going to have fun
Daily routine: get up, wash up, get dressed, get spiffy, get bored, have fun, go to bed, etc.
More adverbs: early, late, well, poorly, before, after, early, late

Regular ER verbs that go with shopping: buy, bring, offer, find, try on, suggest
Spotlight on irregular verbs: can, want, receive/get, must, put on, take, see
Regular RE verbs: wait, give back, lose, answer, sell, hear, depend, descend
Gift vocabulary: money, gift cards, games, clothes, accessories
Shopping vocabulary: salesperson, open/closed, receipt, dressing room, sales
Returning items to a store

2. Brainstorm vocabulary for each topic using all question words (tie words together)

3. Think of major word categories from each question word
Qui? La famille, les amis, les animaux de compagnie, les adultes dans votre vie, les vendeurs

Quand? l’année, le mois, la semaine, le jour, après, avant, pendant, souvent, tjs
Où? les endroits, les villes, la campagne, le lycée, le travail, l’hôtel, le magasin
Comment? vite, avec enthusiasm, avant, après, tôt, tard, words ending in –ment
Pourquoi? parce que, à cause de, s’amuser, se reposer, un défi, trop moche,
Quel(le)(s)? quelles vacances, quels amis, quelles activités, quelles qualités, quels cadeaux, quels membres de la famille, quelle fête, quel jour, quel magasin, quel vendeur, quels vêtements, etc.
4. Be able to conjugate or morph your verbs (action words)
A. Present Tense – what is happening now or continues to happen
Conjugate or morph the verb according to their subject (who is doing the action).

Regular verbs: -er verbs (-e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent) manger, rester, essayer, donner, offrir, etc
-re verbs (-s, -s, ----, -ons, -ez, -ent) attendre, perdre, répondre, vendre
Irregular verbs:
Etre – to be
Avoir – to have
Faire – to do, make
Aller – to go
Vouloir – to want
Pouvoir – can, to be able to
Devoir – must, to have to
Prendre – to take
Mettre – to put (on)
voir/recevoir – to see/to receive
il faut – it’s necessary / ya’ gotta’
B. Past Tense (communicating WHAT HAPPENED, WHAT SOMEONE DID) a completed action
e.g. I ate, you finished, he sold, we did, we went, you stayed, they arrived
The verb splits into two parts:
PART I+PART II = PAST TENSE
j’ai mangé

ils sont arrivés
C. Immediate Future Tense – what is going to happen
Conjugate the verb ALLER and add another verb after itin unconjugated form (leaving the ending intact).
Je vaisétudier pour mon examen.
Tu vasêtre admis à une bonne université.
Nous allonsgrossir en hiver.
Ils vontattendre les filles.
5. Remember the topics and think about possible scenarios. What could be heard?
