5th Grade Jazz Musician Project- Requirements
As part of our study of Jazz music, each 5th grade student will complete a project on a famous Jazz musician. The project has 3 parts: a 2 minute presentation, and a poster advertising your artist and a recording by the artist.
The Presentation:
-You will need to tell me the artist’s birth and death dates (if they are still alive you will not need to provide a death date), their accomplishments in life and music, what instruments they played or if they sang, and some important things about their life. P
-Please describe their musical style (ex: Swing, Bebop, Big Band, Blues, etc.) and mention some of their famous songs they either wrote or performed.
-Your presentation should last about 2 minutes in order for us to get through everyone in a short amount of time.
-You may have note cards for your presentation but please make sure you have practiced what you are going to say and don’t read entirely from your note cards.
Note cards are there to help you remember what you want to say.
-You will also present your poster and recording to the class at this time.
The Poster: Your poster will be an advertisement for a performance of your artist. It can either be an advertisement for a real concert they once held in the past or a made up one in the past or future. Be sure to include their picture, information about the concert (who, what, where, when, why) and some descriptions or key phrases about their music. Size must be at least 8½ x 11. This is your chance to be creative, so please do so!
The Recording: At the end of your 2 minute presentation, you will play song performed/composed by your artist. Make sure you know the title of the piece so you can introduce it in your presentation. Please tell us why you chose this song to play for the class.
Recordings can be CD or on a jump drive (no iPods or mp3 players). If you absolutely cannot bring in a CD or jump drive with your song on it, you may write down the artist and title of your song and give it to me sometime BEFORE the day of your presentation, and I can download it and bring it in for you.
All 3 parts of this project are due on Thursday February 21st. We will begin presenting this day and finish up any remaining the following week.
