Theme: Music

Slide 1 / INTRODUCTION
Slide 2 / Jacky: / Good morning everyone. We are students from 5B.
Slide 3 / Jacky: / Today we are going to share with you about MUSIC.
Slide 4 / Nathan: / Music? I think many of us like listening to music. So, are we going to talk about classical music or popular music?
Slide 5 / Tony: / In fact, when we think about classical music, we may think that they are old and ‘out’. But it could be very popular at THAT time, such as Beethoven (貝多芬) or Mozart (莫札特). Many people liked their music at their time.
Slide 6 / Tony: / Tteenagers from different generations like different pop music.
Slide 7 / Nathan: / I see what you mean. Look, there are so many different popular singers in different generations.
Slide 8 / Tony: / I think if you go home and ask your grandmother or grandfather, they may tell you that they like Beatles or Air Supply. And your mummy and daddy may like Michael Jackson or Madonna. These are very popular singers at that time.
Slide 9 / Nathan: / So, how about now? What do teenagers nowadays like? We would like to share with you the kinds of music we like, including western music, J-pop and K-pop.
Slide 10 / Natalie: / Rock Music is very famous. I think all of you know something about Rock Music. It started in America and was called ‘rock and roll’ then.
Slide 11 / Kary: / There are other kinds of rock music, such as blues rock, jazz rock and punk.
Slide 12 / Natalie: / Rock and roll music is usually played by electric guitar, bass guitar and drums. Therefore, rock and roll music is usually loud, fast andvery strong in rhythm.
Slide 13 / Kary: / The songs are not only about love, but also about social issues. This is why some people think that rock music is anti-social.
Slide 14 / Natalie: / My favourite singer isAvrilLavigne. She is a singer-songwriter. Hersongs are about going after your dreams. So I think she promotes positive messages.
Slide 15 / Angel: / If we come back to Asia, I guess the most popular kind of music should be J-pop and K-pop.
Slide 16 / Shine: / J-pop and K-pop? What do they stand for?
Slide 17 / Chloe: / I am sure many students can guess what they stand for. J-pop stands for Japanese Pop Music and K-pop stands for Korean Pop Music.
Slide 18 / Shine: / So, what are the differences between these two kinds of music?
Slide 19 / Venus: / In fact, they are very similar. Both J-pop and K-pop promotes handsome or beautiful young singers. They often come as a band or a group.
Slide 20 / Angel: / I know, I know. There are many famous bands. For J-pop, I think many teenagers know a boy band called Arashi and a girl group called AKB48. For K-pop, I think Big Bang, SHINee and Girls’ Generation are very popular.
Slide 21 / Chloe: / But if we need to tell the difference between the two, K-pop emphasizes more on dancing, hip-hop and rock music. There are faster songs which have a strong sense of rhythm and are suitable for dancing. Sometimes the young singers wear very sexy clothes. Also, there are more boy bands in K-pop.
Slide 22 / Venus: / As for J-pop, I think it has a longer history. It also has more varieties. For example, there is not only electric music, but also sof music. Moreover, there are not only bands, but also individual singers like Ken Hirai or Angela Aki.
Slide 23 / Shine: / Venus, who is your favourite J-pop singer?
Slide 24 / Venus: / I like Yui very much because of her talents. She is a singer-songwriter. She does not only write and sing her own songs, but also play different musical instruments. How about you, Shine?
Slide 25 / Shine: / I like Yui Aragaki most. She is not only a singer, but also an actress and a model.
Slide 26 / Chloe: / With the help of social networking sites like Facebook, and the development of YouTube, these K-pop and J-pop singers and groups have become more famous all over the world.
Slide27 / Angel: / And don’t forget PSY’s Gangnam Style! People are crazy about him now. He is also from Korea.
Slide 28 / Venus: / Music can surely help us to relax. I hope we can appreciate different types of music. Pop music is fun and enjoyable. Classical music is soothing and can calm our emotions.
Slide 29 / Natalie: / Now let’s say The Lord’s Prayer together.
Our Father in heaven, holy be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.
Now and forever. Amen.
Slide 30 / Jacky: / That’s the end of our sharing today. Thank you.
