3Range

For the purposes of assessment, the candidate is not required to set up and sharpen shearing combs and cutters.

4Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or written instructions to staff and contractor’s on policies and procedures for shearing operations.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Dag sheep with prepared equipment.

Rangeone of – machine, blade.

Evidence requirements

1.1Sheep are caught and held securely in accordance with workplace proceduresand theAnimal Welfare (Sheep and Beef Cattle) Code of Welfare 2010.

1.2All dags and stained wool are removed in accordance with workplace procedures.

1.3The sheep are dagged without injury to self or sheep.

Outcome 2

Crutch sheep with prepared equipment.

Rangeminimum of two of the followingmethods – half belly, full belly, ring crutch, full crutch, eye wigged.

Evidence requirements

2.1The sheep are checked for pizzle rot and wool blindness and action is taken in each case in accordance with workplace procedures.

2.2The sheep are crutched without injury to self or sheep, and all dags and dirty wool are removed in accordance with workplace procedures.
