Senior & Masters Pool Championships

Well done to all the seniors and masters that competed in the Pool Championships at Bristol.

A small team of masters and a very young team of seniors travelled to Bristol to compete in the first competition of 2014.

Both teams showed excellent performances in the pool and brought medals home.

The young guns showed they are a force in the water with Charlie Haynes (16) and Emma Henderson (16) both coming home with National titles. Not to be outdone Jon Webb also came home with gold in the masters rescue medley.

Overall team results senior 3rd and masters 5th. This weekend (5/6.04.14) it is the turn of the Nippers and Youth at Cardiff. Good luck to all!

On the subject of competitions -all members pay competition fees, regardless of club position. There are financial penalties for late payment and hence the urgency once deadlines are set.

Team selection

The executive committee would like to remind all members and supporters that the selection of teams for pool or beach events follows a strict procedure and adheres to the club’s selection policy. Interference with the smooth running of competitions is contrary to the club’s code of conduct for parents/carers, which states that parents/carers should:-

Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.

Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performances of all.

Publicly accept officials' judgements.

Use correct and proper language at all times.

Full policy can be found on the club website, please read!

Accommodation Exmouth British Championships

Accommodation has been found in Exmouth for the British Masters, Youth and Nippers Championships. It is a small campsite so there will be limited pitches. It is approx 10mins from the beach. Members need to book their own accommodation and quote Portreath SLSC.

The refurbishment of the clubhouse is now well underway, and there are hopes that Phase 1 will be nearing completion by the end of this month. The club will be once again available for hire for parties; weddings and training events from the middle of May hopefully! Enquiries for bookings should be directed to the Club Treasurer – Susan Bray.

The Annual Bake Off will sadly be postponed until later in the year when the current refurbishment allows.

The Annual Grudge Match on the Football Field between the ‘more mature’ and ‘younger’ members of the club will take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend – either Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th May – day, time and venue will be confirmed very shortly! Time to get into training gentlemen!!

There will be a Wine Tasting Evening on Saturday 24th May at 7.30pm – tickets will be £5, adults only. Your entry will include wine, nibbles and quiz entry. Tickets for this event will be available from any committee member from Easter onwards.

A polite reminder

Finally the committee would like to remind club members that:

  • NOprivate kit (boards or skis) can be used by other users without prior consent.
  • All damage to club kit (boards or skis) must be reported to the gear steward – Geoff Pascoe – immediately!
  • No club kit (boards or skis) is to leave the clubhouse for use at other venues without prior consent
  • Only boards and skis that have allocated slots can be stored in the clubhouse
  • All boards and skis stored in the clubhouse are left at the owners risk and the club cannot take responsibility for damage or loss.
