Equestrian category descriptions

10.1Working Western - 15 & Under

10.2 Working Western - 16 & Over
Description: Working Western is a mounted class, with tack suited for "Old West”, such as: working saddle, saddlebags, tools, rope, etc. Your attire should consist of a western shirt and pants, chaps, hat, etc.

10.3 Fancy Western - 15 & Under
10.4 Fancy Western - 16 & Over
Description: Fancy Western is a mounted class, with “Fancy” tack and attire, such as silver on your saddle and "glitz" on your personal clothing. The key to this class is Fancy!

10.5 Matched Pairs - Open
Description: Matched Pairs is also a mounted class. Your horses should be in similar tack and both riders should be in matched attire. You want to be as Matched as possible.

10.6 Mounted Color Guard - Open
Description: Mounted Color Guard is just that. There should be a team that carries "Our Colors”respectfully and proudly. The horses do not have to be matched, but the tack looks better if it is.

10.7 Mounted Groups – Open
Description: A Mounted Group is a group of horses from a club or organization that is in pattern, controlled, and as uniformed as possible.
10.8 Parade Horse - Open
Description: Parade Horse is a class that provides some action; a horse that has some fancy moves and looks good and is well-controlled. The tack and attire should be fancy and flashy.... Strut Your Stuff!
10.9 Horse Drawn Vehicle - Open
Description: Horse Drawn Vehicle is ANY horse or pony that is pulling a cart, wagon, etc. This class is open to single horses, teams, 4-ups, etc. You should be in control and the tack (harness) should be safe. Decorations are up to you.
10.10 Novelty/Costume - Open
Description: This is the class that you can have fun in... Spanish Lady, Charro, Charra, Indian, Arabian, Side Saddle.... Be creative and original.
10.11 Jr. Horseman - 12 and under
Description: This class is for the little guys and gals. It is open to Working Western, Fancy Western, Spanish Lady, Indian, etc.

More than anything, your judge will check for safety. Tack should be in good condition; rider should be able to handle the animal, costumes should not interfere with the controllability.

Grubstake Days Parade Information

Parade date: Saturday May 27, 2017

Theme: “Celebrating our Western Heritage”

Entries are encouraged to decorate and dress using the theme.

Entry form: Complete and return the entry form today. Parade orders and staging information will be sent to accepted entries ten (10) days prior to the parade. Entries must be received no later than May 12, 2017. Entries are limited. Late entries are discouraged and may not be published in the parade line-up orincluded in the announcer’s commentary.

Entry Fees: Youth and Non-Profit – $25.00. General Entry - $40.00.

Any entry received after the May 12th deadline may be subject to a late fee.

Commercial Floats: Commercial floats should display only the name of the sponsor or organization, in addition to a theme related message or wording. Entries should be appropriately decorated for spectator visibility.

Judging of Entries: Judging will be based primarily on execution of the theme, originality of design, and spectator appeal. Other qualifications are used where applicable. Judging will be during the parade by a select panel of judges in front of the California Welcome Center (CWC)

@ 56711 29 Palms Hwy YV. At the conclusion of the parade, judges will tally the final winners & names will be announced @ 2pm in the CWC. Winners will be notified if not present & arrangements for award presentation and photo will be made by appointment with the chamber staff.

Check In Schedule: All entries are to check in beginning @ 7am at the chamber Registration booth on Santa Fe Trail west of Deer Trail in Old Town to pick up parade number and entry location. Entry line-up is on Santa Fe Trail in Old Town facing WEST.

Parade start @ 10 am sharp from INCA TRAIL (Traffic light) in Old Town and will travel EAST 1.7miles on the south side of Hwy 62 to the end of the parade at SAGE AVENUE.

Participants may turn right or left @ SAGE AVENUE for pick-ups parked along Sage, YVHS, Village Center, Sunnyslope Ave or BMX Park.

All vehicles not participating in the parade must leave the lineup area by 9:00 a.m

GENERAL RULES 2017

Deliberate violation of any rule may cause immediate removal from the parade and/or suspension from future Grubstakes Parade participation.

1.  The Grubstakes Committee must approve all entries. The Committee, prior to its acceptance of the parade application, must approve any deviation from the rules.

2.  All participants must be uniformed, costumed, or appropriately attired. The Committee must also give written approval of any entries consisting of advertising or expressed political, social, or religious viewpoints.

3.  All entries must be in their specified place in the assembly area by 9:00 a.m. Maps of the assembly area will be included with notification of approval.

4.  The parade will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.

5.  The parade committee accepts no responsibility for false statements made by applicants or entrants.

6.  Forward motion must be maintained throughout the parade route. If a breakdown does occur in front of you, go around and continue the parade, once the line of march has been cleared.

7.  Please carry an identification banner if possible.

8.  No one under the age 8 will be permitted to march the full length of the parade route. Minors under the age of 8 may be carried or may ride if accompanied by an adult.

9.  All equestrian entries for minors ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Horses ridden by children ages 10 and under must have a lead rope.

10. All entries are advised to carry personal insurance.

11. No unauthorized vehicles will be allowed on the parade route.

12. Water balloons, water guns or other similar water devices are strictly prohibited.

13. No silly string.

14. Noisemakers such as poppers and firecrackers are strictly prohibited.

15. No verbal proselytizing.

16. No harassment of or physical contact with spectators is allowed.

17. Anything given to the audience must be handed out not thrown from the entry.

18. Please provide sufficient drinking water during the parade.
