Registration

Initial registration must be received via Tabroom by Monday, September 28th. Changes/drops will be accepted to existing registration on Tabroom until 8am on Friday, October 2nd. Please text any changes after that time to 630.670.5369 with school, division, and names/codes.

Note: we are a small building. There’s an initial entry cap of 10 per school; we will maintain a waitlist for add’l entries.

In-building locations

- Tab (Library)

- Rounds (second/third floor classrooms)

- Awards/Announcements (Cafeteria)

- Judges Lounge (209) – for non-high school students. Varsity debaters judging in the novice division can get the fudge out.

Important building note

- We take great pride in our building and trust that no classroom objects, personal belongings, or artwork throughout the school will be disturbed. Surveillance is omnipresent.

Arrival notes:

Friday:

- Please aim to arrive around 4:00 pm for ease of bus drop-off, and bring your students directly to the cafeteria. School lets out at 3:04 pm and the surrounding traffic is generally a madhouse for 30 minutes thereafter.

- There is a student parking lot on the west (non-school) side of the street where buses can stay/wait, but the school lot proper is on the east side.

- The bus entrance to the school parking lot is the southernmost entrance on Kedzie.

- Please utilize the visitor parking in the south end of the parking lot on Friday. Pretty much anywhere is fine on Saturday.

- Coaches should check in at the tab table upon arrival, which will be located in the library, on the second floor of the building.

- We will presume all judges you’ve registered are on-site when you arrive, unless you alert us otherwise.

Saturday:

- If you arrive early on Saturday, please go to the cafeteria.

- Coaches should text any drops (including a debater going maverick on day 2) by 7:00 am to 630.670.5369 with school, division, and team code(s). If drops are called in on time, pairings will be out by 7:30 am and we’ll start on time.

competition

Elims

We’ll plan on breaking to quarters in novice and varsity, though numbers may necessitate a change. If that’s the case we’ll announce it on Friday afternoon. Mavericks will not clear.

Forfeits

Forfeit time is 15 minutes after posted start time. Judges need to contact tab if one team fails to show; one debater needs to contact tab if the judge fails to show.

For the novice division

  1. In line with previous years, we will not allow novices to run counterplans/counteradvocacies or kritiks during T1. Additionally, we will not allow novices to run pre-fiat advantages on the aff; critical advantages are fine so long as they’re solved by the mechanism of the plan as opposed to using “the debate space.”
  1. We will offer a novice case list as well, for the sake of preparation and education. While we don’t need full 1ACs, please email a plan text and advantage list by 9/18.

judging

One judge for every two teams (or fraction thereof) entered; this means, if you bring three teams, you need two judges. Please do your best to bring judges able to hear the proper divisions; try to avoid bringing six varsity teams with three judges who can only handle novice. The tournament will not be hiring judges. You are responsible for bringing enough judges to accommodate the number of students debating. If you do not bring an adequate judging pool, you may have students unable to participate in rounds.

Varsity judges should have a Tabroom account linked; we will work as necessary with coaches/judges ahead of time to facilitate this. Novice judges will be using paper ballots.

Schedule:

Friday, October 2nd

Tabroom editing will be disabled as of 8am; text subsequent changes to tab at 630.670.5369 or email to
