Autumn Term 2017

SUNRISE NEWS

We warmly welcome each new family joining Sunrise Nursery and Primary School this term, and gladly welcome back familiar faces.

We hope that you had an enjoyable holiday together.

May we take this opportunity to remind you that as the weather gets colder all children need gloves (or mittens for the younger ones). If you attach them on an elastic band to thread through their coat sleeves, they will be less likely to lose them. Please also make sure that all clothes are labelled with your child’s name. We have sharpie pens to do this if needed, please ask your child’s class teacher.

SCHOOL LIFE

Home Visit

For new parents settling your child this term, you will be asked to schedule an in-depth meeting with their key person during the first half of the term. This meeting could take place at your home, or at school. As part of Sunrise School’s Neo-Humanist philosophy we would like to give parents the opportunity of a home visit, as it is beneficial for children to see their home and nursery/school working together as one. Talking to your child’s key person brings familiarity and confidence into our relationship together for the benefit of your child. For primary aged children we also promote home-visits to nurture and enhance teacher/child relationships.

Staff Updates

We wish to welcome Hema who joins us as Lower School Teacher (years 1-3), whilst Elly takes a new role as Assistant Head Teacher.Cahit will now be working full time in the Garden Room, with Farzana as the Room Leader.Sureyya and Martha are assisting on a part time basis. As we hope you are all aware, we only have one early years class this term, including nursery and reception. A number of staff from last year have left Sunrise.

Meals

On a temporary basis we have asked all parents to provide a packed lunch. Sunrise is a vegetarian school, therefore all food provided should be vegetarian.

We are trying to teach the children to feed themselves healthily, therefore if you choose to provide a snack for your child, please do not send sweets, crisps or unnatural juices.

Please also avoid sending nuts in case of any allergies.

Uniform

We ask that primary school children wear red tops (shirts, t-shirts, blouses) and black bottoms (shorts, trousers, skirts, jogging bottoms).

These colours promote good concentration and grounding, enhance the vibrant energy of children, and give them a sense of belonging.

Outdoor Play

It is an Early Years Foundation Stage requirement that children play outdoors if they choose to, as it is necessary for their development. Please provide your child with very warm clothing to enable them to go outside in all kinds of weather, and to enjoy the experience!

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate parents request to keep children indoors if they have a cold, as we recommend children stay home if they are unwell.

Walk in the Woods

Please provide your child with warm clothing including hat, gloves and scarf, wellington boots and raincoats, for use in wet weather. A spare set of clothing including very thick socks as well as a healthy snack is also recommended.

Swimming & Sports Hall

Please ensure that a swimsuit, swimming cap, towel and armbands (if required) are provided for swimming lessons, and that suitable running shoes are provided for the Sports Hall session.

Show & Tell

Your child may use this time to show and tell their class about one smallitem which they have brought from home.

Circle Time

We incorporate Circle Time into each class every day, with a Whole School Circle Time taking place once a week. Circle time is fun with songs, yoga, spiritual singing (kiirtan) and meditation, all of which help to strengthen relationships with each other, give an understanding of the universal family, and also give meaning to our spiritual development.

Early Morning Club

The Club is open from 8:30am-9:00am at a cost of £2 per session, and is available to all children.

The sessions are covered by Ellyfrom Bambi’s (Nursery and Reception). Please book in advance. Can we kindly remind parents that school starts at 9am, so please don’t drop your child/children off earlier unless you have booked Early Morning Club.

AUTUMN TERM STORY

Baby Lion and the Lion King

The Lion King was always very angry. And because everybody was scared of him he didn’t have any friends. Only Baby Lion was not scared of him. Baby Lion always sang:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Everybody loved Baby Lion. He had many friends. This made the Lion King jealous. He told Baby Lion: You must stop singing or I will catch you. Of course Baby Lion didn’t stop. He loved singing very much because it made him happy. And he just walked and danced around, singing:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.

First the Lion King called Elephant to catch Baby Lion. Elephant ran very fast: boom, boom, left, right, left, right… And she came closer and closer… But was Baby Lion scared? No, he was just singing:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Elephant was running faster and faster and coming closer and closer, and then… all of a sudden stopped. She opened her big ears, and listened to Baby Lion’s singing. She thought it was so beautiful that she picked up Baby Lion very gently, put him on her head and together with him started dancing and singing:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.

They were very happy. But who was not happy? The Lion King. He called a giant, with ears so tiny that he could hardly hear anything, and told him to catch Baby Lion.

The giant took one step, two steps, three steps, and grabbed Baby Lion and put him into a bag. The giant with the tiny ears tied up the bag, and with a big swing, threw it into the sea. There the bag slowly sank into the water. Was Baby Lion scared? No, he was just singing:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Deep in the sea there are millions and gazillions of fish. And they can hear, do you know? One of them heard Baby Lion’s singing and thought it was so beautiful that it wanted to help Baby Lion. The fish opened the bag and carried Baby Lion to the beach. There the fish called all the animals, and said: You must take good care of Baby Lion!

They all said that they would take good care. And they were very happy. But who was not happy? The Lion King, who said: You, Baby Lion, again? How is it possible?

Baby Lion smiled, and said: Well there is love everywhere. There also is love in the sea. And Love always helps those who love others.

The Lion King started to laugh: There is also Love in this stone? Baby Lion nodded ‘yes’. ‘Then show me!’ said the Lion King. Baby Lion started to sing:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.

…Boom! Boom! Boom! Suddenly the stone burst apart and out of the stone there appeared a giant lion. The Lion King was very scared and said: ‘What is this?’ Baby Lion, who was smiling, said: ‘It is the Love Lion’.

The Lion King, who never knew that Love was so powerful, was shaking, and said: ‘From now onwards I will also love everybody’. And from that day onwards the Lion King, Baby Lion and all the other animals sang together:

Love is everything, everything is Love.

Love is everything, everything is Love.
