New Business:

David Anthony from Buck-ID

Thanks for inviting me. I’m the director of Buck-ID. Prepared a general overview. Just to give a scope, 15 Million swipes a year in the system. Door, meal plans, off-campus merchants. We’ve had a lot of growth in merchants accepting buck-id. Some of the biggest merchants: Columbus blue jackets; the stadium concessions. We make 40,000 IDs a year- 1st time, replacement, dependent IDs for games, staff/faculty. Some of the problems we handle: support center. 292-5700. anytime you call you can put in a ticket and we’ll answer (i.e. people having troubles with their cards) 1200 of those.

We had some discussions with Brad from USG. We get cardstock that is preprinted and our numbers are preprinted. If the nurse line is going to stay, we will gladly order cards with that number on it.

We’re in the process of getting new printers which will let us print quicker. We’re looking to replace laundry readers. Looking to: you can track your laundry usage online.

We always focus on adding Buck-ID merchants. The whole process can be online. There are some that we go after like Giant Eagle on Neil.

Ellender- Is it buck id that deals with doors.

David-No. anything that is battery operated is thru facilities

Lippus- Besides emails, how else do you show that you are

David- You can search on our website. We also do that merchant of the month email. It doesn’t show new merchants but just specials. We also use buckeye net news.

Lippus- Is there any marketing for showing merchants accepting buck-id?

David- We had playing cards and things during welcome eweek.

Evans- Have you looked at south campus gateway?

David- Garage

Evans- Have you talked about garages accepting buck-id?

David- That is something we need to talk to traffic and parking with, I’ll add it to my list.

Evans- Off campus complexes for laundry?

David- Weare in a few off campus Laundromats. If you think there are some complexes that could use it, we can talk with them. It is expensive but if they think they would use it. 2/3 of the money thru buck-id are the first/second year students.

Lippus-How do you make money?

David- It’s similar to a credit card company. It ends up being 4%. Our biggest cost is the software. We use Blackboard for readers, door readers, etc.

Lippus- Does Buck-ID increase sales for the companies that have buck-id readers?

David- Yes. (i.e. giant eagle $300,000 on the n high street).

Swain- The numbers are a bit outdated. Are you going to redesign it?

David- The front stays, but the back can be changed to meet the students needs. Is there anything that you think is missing?

Evans- McDonalds?

David- When the corporate McDonalds took it over, they couldn’t figure it out.

Dahlby-Wexner center, Urban outfitters.

Lippus- Gas stations

David- Shell Lane and High; Exxon lane and Neil; Marathon north on high; GetGo on High in Giant Eagle north campus.

Lippus- Could you look into west campus?

David- It’s hit and miss.

Wernery- Target?

David- They decided that they didn’t need it.

Swain- Lennox?

David- South Campus Gateway Drexel.

Dahlby- Can you reactivate a card?

David- You just need to get in touch with the buck-id office or the buck-id website.

Evans- The $5 printing fee. Has there been any talk about changing the printing restrictions with OIT?

David- When they replaced the change boxes with buck-id machines, that’s where it got messed up.

Evans- Also, the replacement fee $5… can they rid of that?

David- When dealing with an ID card, there’s a small charge. It’s a tough balance. If we print a bad card then I’d be willing to replace a bad card, but we’re going to keep that charge.

Swain- Vending machines?

David- We have 100 pop and 75 vending machines. Most of them are in res halls.

Evans- The buck-id machine readers in dorms sometimes are down.

David- Whenever there is any electrical problem the vending machine readers are the first to go. In the system we’ve got 160 readers and 15-16 offline. We’re working to fix that. Some of our readers are functioned that when they’re offline they can still work (Res halls).

Lippus- Can you still go in a dorm if you don’t live in the Res halls?

David- Not unless you work for the university and need to get in said hall.

Dalhby- Some doors in Res halls are exit only and we were wondering if you could add machines to those doors?

David- I will talk to housing.

No Announcements/Reminders.
