2.PRODUCTS

Materials

2.1SUSPENSION SYSTEM

Manufactured by a member of the AWCINZ. Hot-dip galvanized steel elements to AS/NZS 4600, AS 1397 and AS/NZS 2785 for carrying ceiling sheets, light fixtures and air distribution elements and complying with NZS 1170.5, section 8.

2.2DIRECT FIX SYSTEM

Manufactured by a member of the AWCINZ, wall and suspended ceiling division. Hot-dip galvanized steel elements to AS/NZS 4600, AS 1397 and AS/NZS 2785, including furring channels / batten, T grid and direct fix brackets for fixing to timber, steel and concrete.

2.3PLASTERBOARD SHEET

Refer to 5113UB USG BORAL PLASTERBOARD LININGS section.

Components

2.4FASTENERS SUSPENSION SYSTEM

Join furring channels and C channels using proprietary system clips, pop rivets or 8g-16 x 12mm (minimum) self drilling wafer head screws as per manufacturer's details.

2.5FASTENERS DIRECT FIX

8g-16 x 25mm (minimum) self drilling wafer head screws to steel or timber, or 30mm clouts for fixing to timber only, as per manufacturer's details.

3.EXECUTION

Conditions

3.1CO-ORDINATE SERVICES

Co-ordinate and co-operate with electrical and mechanical work to avoid conflict between suspension members and light fittings, diffusers, pipework and ducting to NZS 4219. Confirm the provision of extra hangers and fixings as required:

-Surface mounted light fittings or similar point loads up to 15kg may be supported on the ceiling battens providing batten does not span more than 900mm.

-Surface mounted light fittings or similar point loads up to 7kg may be supported on the ceiling battens providing batten does not span more than 1200mm, and is screwed back to back with 8g - 16 x 12mm self-drilling wafer head screws at 150mm centres, as per manufacturer's details.

-Surface mounted point loads are to be directly fixed to ceiling batten, not to lining.

Refer to PENETRATION clause for penetration fittings.

3.2SITE CONDITIONS

Do not begin installation until the building is closed in, fully glazed, the roof watertight, and mechanical and electrical duct work above the ceiling completed.

3.3COMPLY

Comply with AS 2946 for interface requirements for physical compatibility.

3.4RESPONSIBILITY

Ensure that conditions are suitable for the ceiling installation. Arrange for the programming of the work to suit required practice.

Installation

3.5INSTALL

Install the system to AS/NZS 2785 minimum standards and USG Boral's requirements. Adjust all clips by string line or laser level until they are all level.

3.6ACCESSIBILITY

Provide access hatches where required to the ceiling system for the in-ceiling and above-ceiling services so that maintenance and removal of any part can be carried out without damage to the ceiling system or lining.

3.7PENETRATIONS

Accommodate recessed light fittings, air conditioning outlets and other electrical and/or mechanical services that are fixed to or pass through the ceiling system. Provide independent support for these as necessary.

3.8FLUSH CEILING - SUSPENDED

Install the selected suspension system to AS/NZS 2785 minimum standards. Screw-fix sheets to either the furring channel sections or Drywall Grid face at the centres required by the ceiling lining manufacturer. Stagger joints and fully support on sections, with framing and suspension centres to suit the load and USG Boral's requirements. Refer to 5113UB USG PLASTERBOARD LININGS section.

3.9FLUSH CEILING - DIRECT FIX

Install the direct fix system to AS/NZS 2785 minimum standards. Screw or nail direct fix brackets to either purlins, joists or truss bottom chords. Screw-fix sheets to either batten sections or Drywall Grid face at the centres required by the ceiling lining manufacturer. Stagger joints and fully support on sections, with direct fix brackets at centres to suit the load and USG Boral's requirements. Refer to 5113UB USG BORAL PLASTERBOARD LININGS section.

Note: The direct fix clips DFS200 for the USG Boral Drywall Grid System will need to be preloaded on to the Main Tee before attachment to the purlins or joists. Ensure there are sufficient numbers to support the required load at the purlin / joist centres.

3.10BULKHEADS

Form bulkheads to USG Boral's requirements. Diagonally brace at regular intervals to provide lateral stability.

3.11PROTECT EXISTING WORK

Protect adjacent existing work from damage during the installation.

Completion

3.12REPLACE

Replace damaged or marked elements.

3.13LEAVE

Leave work to the standard required by following procedures.

3.14REMOVE

Remove debris, unused elements and elements from the site.

3.15CLEAN

Clean soiled or marked units.
