Title / Produce detailed design drawings for industrial textile fabrication products

Purpose / This unit standard is for people who work in the industrial textile fabrication industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: determine drawing requirements for products in the industrial textile fabrication industry; perform calculations to produce drawings; and produce product drawings under supervision.

Explanatory notes

2Definition

Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements.

Outcome 1

Determine drawing requirements for products in the industrial textile fabrication industry.

Evidence requirements

1.1Drawing requirements are identified in accordance with customer and company requirements.

1.2Drawing media to meet job specifications are selected and used in accordance with company requirements.

1.3Drawing parameters to meet job specifications are identified in accordance with company requirements.

Outcome 2

Perform calculations to produce drawings.

Evidence requirements

2.1Calculations are undertaken to obtain construction measurements and are as per job specifications.

Rangeareas, circumferences, arcs, chords, fits, tolerances, mathematical constants including pi, triangular calculations using Pythagoras’ theorem, triangular calculations using trigonometric functions.

2.2Dimensions to meet job specifications are selected in accordance with company requirements.

Outcome 3

Produce product drawings under supervision.

Evidence requirements

3.1Tools and materials that enable the drawing to be carried out are selected and used in accordance with company requirements.

3.2Products and assemblies are drawn to job specifications.

3.3Drawing is dimensioned and labelled to job specifications.

3.4Drawings are produced to documented job specifications appropriate to worksite.

3.5Drawings meet product specifications and supervisor’s approval.

3.6Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements.
