2nd Annual Volksmarch for Veterans

5 & 11 Kilometer (3 & 6.8 Mile) Walks – IVV Credit Only
Start: Marshall House, 217 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. [39° 11’ 35” N 77° 55’ 97” W] on porch left of house
Times: start any time noon-3 pm; finish by 5 PM; walk or run at your own pace.
Eligibility: Anyone may participate without charge (to be eligible for credit toward IVV Volkssport Achievement Awards registration fee applies; no pre-registration). Everyone must sign a waiver before participating.
Registration Fee: IVV Credit only $3; no refunds. Walk second time for no additional fee.
AVA Special Programs:Civil War Battlefields, Honoring Our Flag, National Register of Historic Places, Trekking with Trees, Water Towers, You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Route: [1A] Different from what you’ve walked before in Leesburg but still an easy walk on sidewalks and paved paths around Leesburg and through its historic district. Sites of military significance will be highlighted in the directions.
Accessibility: suitable for families with strollers and wagons, and people in wheelchairs.
Parking:Free in county parking on Loudoun Street near start/finish; more at
Water: Available free at start/finish and control points.
Refreshments: Food and drink are on sale at the start/finish tent and in town. Beer tent entry requires donation to the VFW—see opposite.
Restrooms: at the start/finish and along trail.
Conditions: These walks will be held in all but severe weather conditions (e.g., heavy, prolonged rainfall or thunderstorms).
Pets: Keep leashed; if they poop, please scoop.

Directions: (about an hour from the Beltway!):
Approaching Leesburg, take Business Rte 7/15 into town. From east, Business Rte 7 becomes Market St; at top of hill (start on right) bear left and park in county parking garage. From west, take Business Rte 7 exit near bottom hill; take Market St to fork and bear right onto Loudoun St; parking garage is at bottom hill after traffic light. From north or south, take Business Rte 15 into town; at top of hill, turn (right from south/left from north) onto Loudoun St; parking garage is at bottom hill after traffic light. Start is two blocks from garage (follow signs).
12th Annual Veterans Day Remembrance
The George C. Marshall International Center hosts a ceremony commemorating American veterans. It starts at 10:15 am in order to end in the 11th hour when the World War I armistice occurred. This year’s speaker is a former Army Chief of Staff.
VFW Volksmarch for Veterans
VFW Post #1177 of Loudoun Countyco-sponsors this annual walk in Leesburg to raise funds for its various needs serving veterans. For a donation ($25 single, $40 family, $15 veteran) participants make a fully tax-deductible contribution to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and receive a commemorative t-shirt (1 for single; 2 for family).
