The 4th International Biennale of Applied Arts will take place from 13 October through 30 of October 2016, in Constantin Brancusi Exhibition Hall (3, Stefan cel Mare Blvd., Chisinau) of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Moldova.
Objectives:
The International Biennale of Applied Arts, Chisinau, 2016, will present the past 2-years evolution of modern decorative arts in the context of artistic processes.
This will offer an opportunity for local and foreign artists to exhibit their works of art and build bridges of communication.
The exhibition will provide a generous space for meetings and interactive debates. Multiple areas of Applied Arts will be represented through a variety of plastic art tools, using modern and traditional techniques and technologies: tapestry, textile print, ceramics, jewellery, fashion design, interior design, textile design, decorative arts in wood, metal, glass, leather, etc.
Eligibility criteria for applicants:
Artists, both local and foreign, specialising in, Applied Arts will be admitted to the competition.
Applicants assume personal responsibility for their copyright with respect to the works they submit to the competition (Annex 1)
Eligibility criteria for works of arts:
An artist can submit maximum 2 works of arts, created within the period from 2014 through 2016.
The works of arts submitted should not have been previously submitted to other international competitions
Deadlines:
Application: 1 August 2016
Selection of works: 3 August 2016
Selection results: 4 August 2016
Acceptance of delivered works: until 7 September 2016
Exhibition: 13 October –30 October 2016
Return delivery of the works - from 3 to 30November 2016
Jury:
The members of jury will be experts in applied arts, art critics and art historians from both Republic of Moldova from abroad. The jury will decide on the winners and the value of the awards.
Fees:
1.Participation fee:
residents. members of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Moldova - MDL 250
non-resident participants - EUR 60
2.The fee is mandatory and non-refundable
General information:
1.The organizers may:
use the image of the submitted works in TV shows, printed media, internet, catalogues, brochures, movies or any electronic environment
use the personal information submitted by the artists to the organizers of the Biennale
3.The selection of works will be done by the workgroup of the Biennale 2016 using the application forms submitted by the applicants by e-mail or by any other means. Application forms must include colour images of the works of art, key features and a photo of the artist. The decision of the workgroup shall be communicated in due time, individually, to each applicant: the decision shall not be disputed, no appeals shall be accepted and the submitted portfolio will not be returned.
4.The following artists/ applicants will be admitted:
Applicants that have received official invitation from the organizers mentioning the title(s) of the work(s) selected
Applicants that have delivered the selected works within the deadlines
Applicants that have paid the participation fee before delivery of their works.
5.The participation fee shall be paid:
by non-resident participants to the organizers’ bank account. All bank commissions and fees related to the payment of the participant fee are to be paid by the participant.
6.When an applicant fulfils all the requirements mentioned in par. 4 of hereof, he/she officially becomes a participant in the competition.
7.If any of the requirements mentioned in par. 4 hereof is not observed, the applicant shall be expelled from the competition and his works shall not be exhibited.
8.The following works of art do not qualify for participation:
members of the jury
members of the organizing committee
works that have reached the destination after 7 September 2016.
9.The organizers will publish the Catalogue of the exhibition that will include all the participants. The description of the participant will include the image of one work of art (to be selected by the workgroup) and key information as mentioned in the submitted application form.
10.Each participant will receive, free of charge:
non-residents: 2 copies of the Biennale Catalogue
residents: 1 copy of the Biennale Catalogue
Delivery fees shall be paid by the organizers.
Terms of delivery:
1.The packaging material should be suitable for repackaging
2.The cost of delivery and return delivery shall be borne by the artist
3.The insurance of the works of arts is at the artists’ discretion
4.The organizer shall not be liable for delayed delivery or for any damage to the works of art during delivery.
5.Resident participants shall pick up their works of arts from the Exhibition Hall within 7 days after event closing
6.The works of art of participants from abroad can be stored up to 45 days. If agreed so, the works of art shall be delivered to the artist by mail, with payment at destination.
The application form, the colour images of the works of art (.jpg/.jpeg format, 300 dpi) and the photo of the artist (.jpg/.jpeg format), to be included in the Biennale Catalogue, shall bear the tag “BIADA-2016” and shall be sent by:
