4th Grade Field Trip Interest Form

Dear 4th Grade Families,

It’s time for the annual overnight field trip! After reading the following information, please return the bottom portion of this form to your teacher no later than a Friday, September 29th. We must know exactly how many students are planning to attend so that chaperones, Amtrak reservations and Lazy W ranch cabins assignments may be arranged. Please return the form whether your child will be attending the field trip or not.

Program: The students will tour Mission San Juan Capistrano and then experience the California Time Capsule Program at the Lazy W Ranch. The highly acclaimed program is offered by the Orange County Marine Institute and allows the students to investigate four cultural periods in California history. The students will build an Indian brush shelter and compare it to an adobe brick house. They will explore Indian plant uses, grind corn to make tortillas, pan for gold and much more! The teachers will be preparing the students prior to the trip in order to enhance their experience.

Chaperones: At the Lazy W Ranch, each boy cabin and each girl cabin sleeps 10 people, eight students and two chaperones. Since there has been substantial interest by parents, Mrs. Parsons and the 4th grade teachers will choose the chaperones by lottery. California State Law requires all volunteers to be current on their TB tests.

Cost: The estimated cost per student is $215.00. Cost per adult chaperone is also estimated at $140.00.

The Lazy W Field Trip packet will be posted on Edlio on Monday, Oct. 2rd. The packet will contain the PVPUSD Permission Slip, medical forms, a time schedule for the trip and a list of what your child should bring. At that time, the trip fees will also be collected. The students should be very excited about their overnight field trip; this will be a memorable fourth grade experience! Thank you.
