INFORMATION/GUIDELINES.

The 4th Australian Blind Championships will take place at Bowland, Ingle Farm Shopping Centre, Ingle Farm, in South Australia, from May 30thto June2nd2011. This championship is open to any bowler who is blind or vision impaired under the following eye classifications:

  • B1, B2, B3, or B4, with an up-to-date eye classification;
  • A member of BVIT by the closing date of this championship; and
  • A current registered member of TBA.

Documentation required with the Entry Form.

A copy of the following documents MUST be forwarded with the Entry Form and payment:

  • Copy of bowler’s current eye classification;
  • Copy of their current TBA Membership card;
  • A signed verified Individual League History of ALL leagues participated in, showing a minimum of 18 games played, in at least one league,in a TBA registered centre, before the closing date for entry to this championship.

NOTE:

  1. Failure to provide ALL required documentation may lead to your entry not being accepted.
  2. Any bowler who does not provide a verified Individual League History may be allocated an average of 200for this championship.

Handicap:

The handicap score of each bowler shall be based on 90 per cent of the difference between his/her highest average and 190. It will be calculated using the bowler’s games over a minimum of 18games played in a TBA registered centre and will be taken from 9 weeks prior to the commencement of the championship.

Events:

The events at this championship are as follows:

  • Day 1 – Monday 30thMay - Trios – 4consecutive games;
  • Day 2–Tuesday 31stMay - Singles – 6 consecutive games;
  • Day 3–Wednesday 1st June – 4 Person Team - 4 consecutive games;
  • Day 4–Thursday 2nd June – Doubles - 6consecutive games.

All bowlers are expected to check-in half an hour before the session begins each day. All bowlers are also expected to be ready on their appropriate lane. Please remember to keep pathways clear.

All games will be bowled in a single lane with no lane change. A lane change may occur if a the centre has lane breakdowns or mechanical problems

The 20 games played by each bowler will be utilised for BOTH Scratch and Handicap events. These scores will also be utilised for each bowler’s All Events.

How to create teams:

The doubles, trios and 4-person teams are created using the eye classification number of each bowler, in that team, to make the following totals:

  • Singles - a maximum of 4;
  • Doubles – a maximum of 5;
  • Trios – a maximum of 7; and
  • 4 Person Team – a maximum of 9. Each 4-person team MUST have a B1 Bowler as well as a female bowler. The B1 and the female may be the same person.

NOTE:

  1. Any bowler who is not part of a doubles/trios/teams’ structure will still bowl their required number of games for that day’s session. Their scores will then be used for their All Events.
  2. Any groups of bowlers who do not fit the criteria for that day’s event will not be eligible for medals in that event.

Substitutes:

NO substitutes are permitted after the closing date for entries to this championship. Should a medical/family emergency occur, then this will be looked at, without creating problems for another team.

Refund of Entry Fee:

A refund of the Game Fee may be permitted under certain circumstances, this refund is at the discretion of the BVIT Committee. In such circumstances, a Doctor’s letter of explanation is required. However this will notapply to the Tournament Expenses or the Medals/Trophies Fund.

Opening Ceremony:

There will be a short Opening Ceremony on the first day – Monday 30thMay @ 12noon.

Medals & Trophies

Medals:

There will be Scratch and Handicap medals awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in:

  1. Singles - In each eye classification covering male and female bowlers;
  2. Doubles - Only those Doubles which have competed using the numberingcriteria will be eligible for these medals.
  3. Trios - Only those Trios which have competed using the numbering criteria will be eligible for these medals.
  4. 4-Person Team - Only those Teams which have competed using the numbering criteriaand the other stipulations required will be eligible for these medals.
  5. All Events - In each eye classification covering male and female bowlers. All bowlers must have bowled a total of 20 games over the four days of competition, bowling at the relevant day/time. Any bowler who has not bowled 20 games at the stipulated days/times will not be eligible for an All Events medal.

Trophies:

There will also be trophies awarded for:

  • Highest number of pins over average;
  • Highest Game - male;
  • Highest Game - female;
  • Highest Game with handicap - male; and
  • Highest Game with handicap - female.

Presentations of Medals and Trophies.

There will be a Medal Presentation at the beginning of the second, third and fourth days of competition. The presentation for the final day competition will be at the conclusion of that day’s bowling, along with the presentation of trophies. This will be followed by a short Closing Ceremony.

Dress Code.

All participants in the 4th Australian Blind Championships are expected to dress appropriately. The dress code for Bowlers is:

  • Black Dress Pants/Trousers/Slacks (no jeans);
  • Black knee length skirt;
  • Polo shirt with collar.

Rules

The Blind Championship will follow the IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation) Rulebook as well as the TBA Code of Conduct and rules. These rules can be found at:

Should a dispute or protest arise which cannot be resolved by the Protest Committee, then the matter will be forwarded to the TBA for their resolution.

Protests

Any bowler/bowlers making a protest must do so in writing within half an hour of the incident occurring. This written protest must be given to the Tournament Director, along with a Lodgement Fee of $50 - this fee will be refunded if the protest is upheld. A Protest Committee will meet and decide on the matter. Any appeals will be forwarded to the TBA for their resolution.

Aids & Equipment

Whilst bowling in this competition, the following aids may be utilized:

  • Aids assisting the bowler in seeing the screen or pins eg: monocular, binoculars, etc, may be used by B2s, B3s and B4s. Such aids are not to be used whilst in the act of bowling.
  • Guide Rails – may be used by B1s and B2s on their lane. Anyone requiring a guide rail MUST provide their own GR for this competition. All Guide Rails are to be left in position until after the 2 lanes on both sides alongside the B1/B2 bowler have also finished.
  • Occlusion Goggles (Australian Team members) or a sleep mask (non Australian Team members) – MUST be worn by all B1 bowlers. There can be no exemptions, in order for a state of equity to be in place for this competition.
  • All bowling equipment is to be left at the bowling centre until after the final session of competition on Thursday 2nd June 2011.

Alcohol, Smoking and Drugs.

There is NO smoking or consumptionof alcohol in the bowling centre during this competition. Prohibited drugsare not permitted unless a TUES (through ASADA) has been obtained prior to the championship. Please bear in mind that a visit from ASADA is always a possibility. Bowlers requiring medication on the lanes, whilst bowling, should provide a medical letter to that effect.

First Aid.

There will be first aid support at the championship. However it is recommended that all attendees carry medical information with them at all times, in case of an emergency.

Accommodation, Food and Transport.

Accommodation, food and transport is NOT included in your entry fees. These items MUST be organised and paid for, by each bowler. Details of accommodation and other information will be provided separately.
