Daniel S. Foley of New Orleanselected president of Louisiana Association for Justice

Daniel S. "Dan" Foley, co-owner of the New Orleans law firm Barker, Boudreaux, Lamy & Foley, is the 2013-2014 president of Louisiana Association for Justice (LAJ). Foley was sworn into office by Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson of the Louisiana Supreme Court.

He and other officers and members of the LAJ Board of Governors were elected during the association’s annual meeting and convention held in New Orleans in early fall.

Foley has had a private law practice since 1972, and during the first three years of his legal career he practiced almost exclusively in federal labor relations. He then focused on trial law and has gained significant experience in the fields of admiralty, medical malpractice, products liability, federal and state workers' compensation and general tort litigation.

In 1980 Foley was elected as clerk of court for the Civil District Court in Orleans Parish and served in that office for a decade.

Foley earned a J.D. degree from the Louisiana State University School of Law and a Master of Laws degree in admiralty in 1984 from Tulane University School of Law.

Foley has served as a member of the Human Relations Commission of the City of New Orleans, the Board of Industrial Development of New Orleans and the Board of Directors of the Louisiana State Museum. He is a past president of the St. Joseph Seminary College Alumni Association (1991-1993) and attended St. Joseph Seminary College from 1960 - 1967.

He is a current member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the American Association for Justice.

Louisiana Association for Justice is a voluntary bar association with statewide membership composed mostly of lawyers who have a trial practice and who represent consumer plaintiffs in civil actions. Most LAJ attorney members are small business owners, maintaining a practice and supporting an office staff of fewer than 20 persons.
