#4305 – Hygiene and Uniform Policy

Purpose:

To establish a guideline for proper uniform dress and the proper hygiene expected for all personnel of the Hughestown Hose Company while attending any special event or incident, routine or emergency.

1.  Hygiene Policy:

1.1.  Any member of the Hughestown Hose Company representing the company at any event shall maintain proper hygiene prior to arrival at an event.

1.1.1.  All members must present themselves in a clean manor at all times and have no offensive odors about them.

1.1.2.  The member must have a well-fitting uniform that is neatly pressed and laundered.

  1. Facial Hair Policy:

2.1.  The following Facial Hair Policy applies to both formal events and incidents. This policy is in place as a safety precaution for incidents due to full beards impeding the SCBA masks from creating a proper seal.

2.1.1.  Full Beards and Goatees are not permitted on firefighters that engage in interior firefighting.

2.1.2.  Mustaches are permitted as long as they are properly groomed and kept above the chin line.

  1. Piercing Policy:

3.1.  The following Piercing Policy applies to both formal events and incidents. This policy is in place as a safety precaution for incidents due the dangers piercings present when on incidents. Piercings can be torn out or super-heated when worn on emergency incidents.

3.1.1.  A maximum of two (2) piercings are allowed to be worn at any time.

3.1.2.  If there are more than two (2) piercings worn, they will need to be removed or covered.

  1. Uniforms:

4.1.  Uniforms are to be worn for all company functions, which include fund raising events, parades, funerals, etc. The class and type of uniforms that are to be worn at such events is at the discretion of the Fire Chief.

4.2.  There are three (3) classes of uniforms approved by the Fire Chief for the HHC.

·  Class A – Full Dress Uniform

o  Dress Hat

·  Hat Badge

o  Dress Coat

·  Badge

o  Dress Shirt

·  Black Tie

·  Collar Pins

o  Dress Pants

o  Black Shoes

·  Class B – Duty Uniform

o  Uniform Duty Shirt

·  Badge

·  Collar Pins

o  Navy Blue Uniform Pants

·  BDU’s are optional

o  Black Shoes

·  Class C – Event Uniform

o  Hughestown T-Shirt or Event T-Shirt

o  Navy Blue Uniform Pants, Khaki Pants, or Blue Jeans
