This workshop will be held on Monday morning, September 15, 2008. It is a half-day presentation and discussion focusing on the use of control charting (statistical quality control) in the production of accurate laboratory results. Topics to be discussed include an overview of the standards for laboratory QA/QC protocols, the methodology to be used to construct an effective control chart and interpretation of control charts. Practical examples of the effectiveness of control charting, utilizing the Lab Stats Pack® program, will be included. The facilitator for the program will be Joseph A. Mastroianni, Executive QA/QC Consultant, with Scientech - a Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Company. This workshop includes coffee breaks and a lunch. Registration will be limited to 60 participants.

The workshop of Monday afternoon will focus on the fusion technique as a productive and result oriented sample preparation method perfectly suited for the mining industry. By reviewing its benefits compared to other sample preparation techniques, we will define its role and importance in the reality of a mining laboratory. The various and different applications typical in the mining industry laboratory will be reviewed. The fusion process will be described and the critical parameters for successful fusions will be explained. Difficulties encountered in the fusion process for mining industry applications will be discussed along with practical solutions and troubleshooting strategies. Emphasis will be put on the different steps of the analytical process that are critical to achieve accurate and precise analysis. It will be demonstrated how the use of automated fusion systems can lead to more accurate and repeatable results over time, while also being completely user independent. The facilitator for the program will be Sébastien Rivard, Corporation Scientific Claisse. This workshop includes a lunch and a coffee break. Registration will be limited to 60 participants.
