Domestic Violence Training

The state of California requires individuals working with victims of domestic violence to complete 40 hours of domestic violence training. (State Evidence Code 1037.1)

Haven Hills, Inc. offers a training course to meet this requirement. The training will provide you with information regarding the dynamics of domestic violence, legal statutes and education about the judicial system, cultural and diversity information specific to this issue, as well as effective strategies for responding to and working with victims of domestic violence. Upon successful completion of the training, you will receive a certificate of completion. This training is offered three times each year.

The cost of the training is $250. For anyone making a minimum commitment of twelve months of volunteer service to Haven Hills, this fee will be waived. (See the attached payment policy.)*

*Completion of the 40 hour training does not guarantee volunteer placement. Placement is based on a screening for appropriateness and ability to meet the requirements of each volunteer position.

Domestic Violence Training -- Payment Policies

The cost of the training is $250 per person; this includes a copy of the training manual. Replacement copies of the training manual are $25 each.

Due to the resources Haven Hills devotes into putting on the trainings, participants who withdraw from the training after the second day of the course will not be refunded their payment.

Volunteers:

For anyone who makes a 12 month commitment of volunteer service, Haven Hills will waive the cost of the class.* The certificate of completion will be held at Haven Hills until the completion of the 12 months of service. The volunteer is expected to pay $25 for the training manual. In addition, a $100 deposit is required in order to enroll in the class. Once the volunteer has fulfilled 12 months of the volunteer commitment, this deposit will be returned to them. A volunteer who does not wish to complete their 12 month commitment may pay the appropriate portion of the course fees to release their certificate early.

*The volunteer commitment is made to the Haven Hills agency, not a specific volunteer program. If a program ends or changes during the year, the 12 month commitment is still required in order to release the refund and the certificate.

Sister Agencies:

Haven Hills will provide the Domestic Violence training to staff of other domestic violence shelters and sister agencies who provide services to our clients for free. Staff from sister agencies are asked to pay $25 for the cost of the training manual. This policy does not extend to volunteers in these programs.

Community Agencies and Individuals:

Haven Hills is happy to provide the Domestic Violence training to members of the community who are interested in taking the course.* While we need to prioritize space in the class for staffing our own programs, community members are welcomed to participate in any remaining space. The course fee is $250 and includes the cost of the training manual.

* All individuals who are interested in taking the training will be screened for appropriateness for the course.
