Air FX Jump Night April 20th

Water Wellness Workshop – February 24th

Do you know if your drinking water is safe to consume? For the many Iowans who rely on private wells, the answer to this question is, "No".

Contaminants to your drinking water supply can lead to health problems in both humans and animals; sometimes right away, sometimes over the course of many years. In this workshop, you will learn about private wells and steps you can take to ensure your water is safe.

Learn to test water, play trivia, create an edible aquifer, and help your community! FREE & open to 6-12th graders. Preregistration required.

Fair Project Do’s & Don’ts Find Out Night – February27th

It’s only February, but the Linn County Fair is coming up quickly! What types of things can you bring as fair exhibits? What are judges looking for in projects? Learn what makes a white, red,or blue ribbon exhibit and how state fair exhibits stand out. Find out about the wide range of classes and opportunities to learn and show off your skills. Please pre-register. This event is FREE and open to K-12th grade 4-H members.

4-H Palooza: Workshop Overload – April 7th

You’ll get a day that you get to choose 3 workshops (potential workshops are photography, STEM, Animal Science, Horticulture, Sewing, Food, Communications, Visual Arts, Clothing Events, and Healthy Living). We will cover Copyright and Fair write ups as well! Cost is $25 and the registration forms can be found here:

Legislative Trip for 7th& 8thGraders – March 28th

Join 4-H members and friends as we travel to Des Moines where we will tour the Judicial Center and the State Capitol, visit with legislators and explore the Iowa Hall of Pride. We will arrive at the capital at 8:30am and return early evening. This trip is for any 7-8th grade 4-H members and friends. 4-H members may invite a friend in 7-8th grade, but they must pay register by the deadline (this includes payment and medical form). Cost is $25.00, registration & paymentdue Wed. March 14.No late registrations accepted Cost includes 4-H Shirt to wear on trip, and a snack for the way home. Youth Will need to bring their own lunch. Murder Mystery Fundraiser – March 24th

For weeks, people have been pouring into the small western town of Deadwood for the biggest poker tournament this side of the Mississippi. From outlaws to marshals to saloon girls, the vast array of visitors and residents of Deadwood have made this small western frontier town THE place to be.
As the festucutues of the poker tournament conclude, a celebration party is planned at the Deadwood Saloon to award the prize money for the tournament and to celebrate what is hoped to be a very financially successful venture for the saloon.
With a smattering of banditsm bank owners, saloon girls, gamblers, east cost debutantes and a few of the locals, this is guaranteed to make for a very interesting evening indeed.

ANIMAL PROJECT INFORMATION

Horse Project Orientation – February 23rd& March 5th

ALL members must attend an orientation in order to be eligible to exhibit at fair. The horse committee will hold two orientations; you must attend one of the sessions. The sessions will be at the Linn County Extension Office at 6:30pm.

Beef Workshop – March 4th

Learn about artificial breeding and the different programs that are available. The workshop will count towards the overall beef exhibitor award. The workshop will be at 1pm at the Linn County Fairgrounds LDM Building.

Swine Workshop – March 4th

Come learn all about Swine! The swine committee will be putting on a great educational workshop on Sunday, March 4th. The workshop will be at 5pm at the Linn County Fairgrounds LDM Building.

Sheep Workshop – March 8th

Learn about feed selection, starting to break your lambs, record keeping, and general information about your sheep project. The workshop will be at 7pm at the Linn County Fairgrounds LDM building.

Poultry 101 Workshop

Who: 4-H and FFA Members

When: Sat. Mar. 10th

Time: 9-11 am

**Topics: Poultry Care/Management, Poultry Breeds, Selection of Show Birds, Showing and Poultry Showmanship.Poultry 101 will be taught by Helena Hayes. Cost is $5/member and can be paid at the door. ***Parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Parents will learn more than 4-H’er, so plan on attending with them!

Iowa County 4-H Host: Rabbit Workshop

Who: Any Iowa 4-H or FFA Member

Where: Zentmire Hall on Iowa County Fair Grounds, Marengo Iowa

Time: 1-3 p.m.

Topics: Rabbit Care/Management, Breeds, Showing and Rabbit Showmanship, and have an option to make a carrying cage.This Rabbit Workshop will be taught by Bobbi Coats and Iowa County Rabbit Superintendents.Cost is $5/member and registrations are due by March 30th. Swine Weigh-In

Swine weigh-in for county fair hogs is Saturday, March 10th1pm – 3pm at the Linn County Fairgrounds. Ear tags are $2. State fair ear tags are $10. In order to be eligible to exhibit at the county fair, hogs must be weighed in on March 10th.

Sheep Weigh-In

Sheep weigh-in will be April 22nd1pm – 3pm at the Linn County Fairgrounds. Eye scans for state fair lambs are $5. Ear tags are $2. ALL lambs must be weighed in in order to be eligible to exhibit at county fair.

Meat Goat Weigh-In

Meat goat weigh-in for market wethers is April 22nd12pm – 1pm at the Linn County Fairgrounds. Eye scans for state fair goats are $5. Ear tags are $2. ALL market wethersmust be weighed in in order to be eligible to exhibit at county fair.

FSQA Dates

FSQA Dates:ALL MEMBERS WHO SHOW A LIVE ANIMAL THAT CAN END UP IN THE FOOD CHAIN MUST TAKE FSQA TRAINING. YOU MUST RSVP TO THE SESSION YOU WILL BE ATTENDING. SPACE IS LIMITED.

Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award
for Iowa High School Juniors
The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award, a $5,000 scholarship program for Iowa juniors, does not evaluate grades, test scores, essays or financial need.Applicants propose a project they want to accomplish. Up to 15 juniors are chosen in April to participate and then complete their projects over the summer.
In the fall of their senior year they make presentations about their projects to a panel of judgesat the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum in West Branch, near Iowa City. Each student receives a $1,000 stipend. In addition, three are chosen
to win $5,000 scholarships to be used at a two or four year college/university anywhere in the nation.
