Agriculture Day at NC State

Do you like farming? Farming is a business that takes many different skills that includes not only growing crops, but working on equipment, soil, insect and nutrient management among others. Even if you don’t plan to farm, there are many careers that support production agriculture. We will visit NC State to tour campus and meet several researchers and professors on campus that work with agriculture. After lunch, we will tour a North Carolina Department of Agriculture research farm. You will have the opportunity to learn about different agriculture careers, research areas and being a student at NC State. Come join us for an Agriculture Day at NC State and see what’s growing! Please wear closed toe shoes and bring sunscreen.

Exploring Farm Animals

This class is designed to teach high school students to how to take the ACT (college entrance test). Instructors have been trained by the Princeton Review on teaching students how to excel on the English, grammar, science, and math portions of the ACT.Students will be ready to take the official ACT on September 8. Some of the class costs will be reimbursed. For information and an application, visit: Applications MUST BE SENT TO THE ASPIRE headquarters.

All participants must complete the 4-H Enrollment and Medical Release (medical release must be notarized) before participating in any class. You can find these on the 4-H website along with the Summer Fun class registration.

***For accommodations for persons with disabilities, contact the 4-H office, no later than 14 days before the scheduled class.

  • Please make sure that participants arrive on time to classes and are picked up on time! If there are field trips and they do NOT arrive on time…they may be left! No Refunds!
  • There will be a sign-in and sign-out procedure that everyone must follow…it is for your safety.
  • Always check class descriptions to see what needs to be brought and where classes are going to be held.
  • Please dress your child in appropriate clothing for the classes (weather, planting, painting, etc.).
  • REGISTRATION IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Some classes require a minimum number of participants. If the 4-H office cancels an event, a refund will be given.
  • If you do not show up for a class…you will NOT receive a refund. If you do cancel, please give us at least a 48 hour notice to accommodate for others that might want to participate.
  • Participants may only sign up for one of the multiple classes offered (i.e. Chef School), to allow for more people to attend classes.
  • Cell phones:. The staff member in charge of the workshop or camp will have a cell phone if a situation arises that we should need to contact anyone’s parents. Therefore, participants should not use cell phones during the class. Cell phones become a distraction to students and presenters. Please make sure every student understands this policy. Call the 4-H office in the event of an emergency and you need to get in touch with your child.

Special Reminders:

You will need to drop off and pick up your children at the WilsonCounty Agricultural Center at 1806 SW Goldsboro Street for all 4-H Summer Fun Workshops. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes early and plan to pick up your child on time. Early drop off and late pick up fees starting at $5.00 for each 15 minutes will be applied after 2 occurrences.
