Contact John Patane at 697-2791 for more information.
First 2007 Stocking of 1 year old trout on Chittenango Creek – The stocking of 6,000 1 year old trout went very well, especially since DEC sent 2 trucks from the Rome Hatchery with some pleasant to work with DEC drivers/staff. Seven (7) of our TU Chapter #680 members were present for the stocking along with some outside volunteers (5 – 6 kids and 3 adults). Working together, we split into two (2) groups, one headed by John Patane and the other by Jim Carncross, to insure the trucks and drivers didn’t have to wait and that the trout were placed in the water as quickly as possible. We could only use DEC provided buckets and no Chittenango stream water was to be brought back to the trucks due to the new virus found in some New York waters..
Action Item – Lee Cameron will contact the Rome Hatchery to try to add at least 2 additional chapter members to the stocking notification list, including John Tafe, our chapter President.
Action Item – John Patane will submit new form and travel with the sergeant from Georgetown to try to get the Georgetown crew to help with future stocking efforts.
UPDATE: Stocking of 2 year old trout will take place on Monday, 4/23/07. We will meet at the Russell St. fire barn at 10:15 AM. Please help if you can and bring a friend!
Chittenango Creek Restoration – John Patane is still waiting to hear back from Chris Childs regarding deep ditch running into Chittenango Creek above Dyke Rd.
Action Item – John Patane to get list of DEC contacts and phone #’s to our chapter members.
Chittenango Creek Walk and Fishing Platform – Donna Lynch and Bill Nichals, Creek Walk Committee chairpersons, are still unable to give a definite time for the building of the Fishing Platform. Bob Semian is continuing discussions with Donna and Bill and has also been in contact with Nick Stafferio, Rick Bakowski P.E. and Chris Neiley, NY State DOT Construction Engineer, regarding the platform design and approval.
Creek Walk and Fishing Platform (con’t)
Action Item – Bob Semian and/or Bob Smith to attend Creek Walk Committee meeting on 4/16/07 to meet with Donna and Bill to get latest information and status.
TU Chapter #680 Dinner/Raffle – John Tafe contacted Patrick Sisti, a writer from the north country, to speak at our annual chapter dinner. Patrick is willing to speak and he and John are working on a date. Tentative date is 10/3/07.
Action Item – John will contact Patrick to finalize the date for our chapter dinner
Route 13/ Chittenango Creekside Clean-up – The roadside area along route 13 and the Chittenango Creekside are in need of some serious trash pickup. Since Earth Day is coming up soon, our chapter felt it would be a good time to join with other groups like Rotary to work on picking up the trash. We are targeting Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 9:30 AM at the Russell St. fire barn in Chittenango. We want to focus on the proposed No-Kill area first and then any other area along the creek that we can, be it in Chittenango or Cazenovia. If you are able, bring 5-6 trash bags each to put the trash in. The trash will have to be brought back to the fire barn for pick up by the village. Please come and help and bring your kids, friends and neighbors. The more we have, the sooner we can finish. Chittenango Rotary expects to have 16 – 20 people and will work on Route 5 and the American Legion area.
Tongas National Forest – John Tafe was contacted by Scott Hed regarding pending legislation which would negatively impact the 17,000,000 acre Tongas National Forest in Alaska. Scott asked for our TU Chapter’s support in keeping the Tongas road free and limiting clear cutting of forests. Chapter #680 members present voted to support keeping the Tongas National Forest road free and limit the clear cutting of forests.
