Position Summary:

Enter Specific job Summary Here: Dental Director is responsible for the delivery of professional dental care services to the patients of the Summit Community Care Clinic (SCCC) and all School Based Health Center Dental Program. The Dental Director will provide consistent supervisory guidance to dental staff, especially in clinical matters. Participates on management team and represents Care Clinic in community settings.

The Dental Director must demonstrate regard for the rights of all patients and staff and volunteers.

Essential Functions:

1.  Assure efficient day-to-day operations of the dental clinic at both the main SCCC Dental Clinic and all School Based Health Centers (scheduling, patient complaints, etc.) including clinical staff supervision, professional development, and achieving staff consensus.

2.  Provides a positive and educative patient experience.

3.  Completes patient exams, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

4.  Completes dental procedures, including restorations, extractions, and prosthodontics.

5.  Provides services at dental outreach clinics and other programs

6.  Establishes dental protocols and scope of practice and ensures that volunteer dentist adhere to Care Clinic standards.

7.  According to implementation of Care Clinic OSHA officer complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and other appropriate safety regulations. Promotes adherence to OSHA guidelines.

8.  Active member of the management team.

9.  Acts as a representative of the Care Clinic with local dentists and their staffs, dental laboratories, service clubs and organizations, patients, and the general public, acting in a professional and responsible manner.

Additional Tasks/Responsibilities:

These may change and additional duties may be assigned. This position must be able to work in any SCCC Clinic location, including all Summit and Lake County School Based Health Clinics.

1.  Review, oversee and manage all timekeeping, grant coordination and payroll for Dental Staff

2.  Work closely with CEO, COO and CFO on budgetary and financial management of Dental department.

3.  Work closely with Director of HR on all leadership, hiring, staffing, recruitment and retention.

4.  Work closely with Medical leadership, CMO and Behavioral Health Director on Team Based Care and Integrated Services in all Clinic operations.

Education/Experience: At least one 5 year experience as a licensed practicing dentist required or equivalent as a combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory experience required. Previous non-profit and/or volunteer experience preferred. (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent).

Language Ability: Ability to read, write and clearly speak the English language. Ability to read, write and clearly speak the Spanish language. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with multiple linguistic cultural variables.

Reasoning and Mental Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Self-directing and organized. Ability to reason objectively. Ability to assess, project and plan for patient’s needs. Ability to interpret state/ federal/agency regulations. Ability to document concisely, accurately and in timely manner. Ability to handle a variety of duties which may be interrupted or changed by immediate circumstances.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, co-workers, administration, physicians and providers, community agencies, referral sources, regulators and other health team members. Ability to enlist the cooperation of others. High tolerance for stress.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a solid knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software and database software.

Certificates and Licenses:

Doctorate of Dental Sciences or Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry degree from an accredited program required.

Licensure by the State of Colorado as a practicing Dentist required.

Working knowledge of and ability to perform administrative functions related directly to dental

services and then to health care as a whole.

OSHA required courses for positions, CPR.

Supervisory Responsibilities: All of Dental staff within clinic and SBHC operations.
