Concordia Sunday

CHECKLIST

Here is an easy checklist to make setting up Concordia Sunday quick and painless:

Contact your pastor and set up date: The official date for Concordia Sunday is April 26, but it can be accomplished on any Sunday when multiple other activities will not distract people, and you are available.

Give church bulletin announcements: The document entitled “Concordia Sunday Bulletin Announcements” contains three announcements to use in the weeks leading up to and on Concordia Sunday. Please fill in the desired run dates for your Concordia Sunday.

Contact other Concordia alumni in your congregation (from any of the 10 schools and two seminaries) to help you greet worshipers and hand out “Proud Concordia Alumni” stickers on Concordia Sunday.

Contact Concordia Nebraska at and tell us:

  • Name:
  • Mailing address:
  • Church:
  • Concordia Sunday date:

Contact the ConcordiaUniversity System office at 800-248-1930, ext.1252, and ask them to mail you a quantity of the free CUS Viewbook. This contains information about all 10 institutions.

Print the FIND OUT MORE form and make copies for people to fill out.

Confirm a location in your church where you can talk to people before, between and after services. Pick a spot where you are easily seen but not blocking the flow of traffic with a table nearby to hold the materials.

Ask your pastor to read the Concordia Sunday bulletin announcement out loud and invite all alumni to stand during announcement time.

Take your materials, smile proudly, wear your sticker, greet energetically and enjoy telling others how great Concordia is on Concordia Sunday!

Bulletin Notice #3 – Run date: April 26(week of event)

Concordia Sunday – April 26: Education has always been a distinctive feature of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and today we are celebrating our 10 Concordia University System colleges and universities and our two seminaries. Our institutions of higher education prepare students for careers in both the church and the world: teacher, pastor, director of Christian education, director of Christian outreach, deaconess, director of family life ministry, director of parish music, lay minister, business person, graphic designer, psychologist, actor, lawyer, doctor, nurse, social worker, scientist, physical therapist and the list goes on and on. The Christ-centered atmosphere of the schools allows faith to grow and lets students integrate it into every portion of their lives.

So, what can you do to support Lutheran higher education?

  • Pray – Ask God to continue to shower His blessings on the students, faculty and staff of our schools and to sustain them in their mission of education.
  • Encourage – If you know high school students who would thrive at a Concordia, encourage them to check out what the schools have to offer. Both official visit days and private customized visits are available for people to really get to know their options.
  • Ask – Talk to alumni wearing a sticker today and ask how Concordia affected their life; what you hear will inspire you.
  • Support – Consider how you could support a student or program through a one-time or repeated gift to ensure the education of the next generation.
