1.General

1.1REFERENCE Documents

.1 / Pruning methods: Pruning Manual, Alberta Public Works, Supply and Services, 1984 Edition.

1.2HOURS OF WORK

.1Except as otherwise specified, perform work during regular working hours of 07:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday.

.2Perform chemical maintenance outside of regular working hours, with Minister's approval. Coordinate scheduling with user.

.3Notify Minister two days in advance of intent to undertake pest, insect and disease control operations. Do not undertake operations unless approval to do so has been given by Minister.

.4Obtain Minister's approval for work to be performed after regular office hours. This work includes major pruning, leaching and soil requirements.

1.3MAINTENANCE LOG

.1Keep Maintenance Log at user's office onsite throughout contract.

.2Submit daily log to Minister at each [weekly] [biweekly] site inspection meeting.

.3Include in Log:

.1detail activities and date

.2areas in which activities were carried out.

.4Detail applications of chemicals in Maintenance Log. Include insect, mode, type and rate of application of chemical, date, time, and results of application.

.5In atrium, [twice per year] [] test soil mix for pH, total salts, and major and minor nutrients of soil. File soil analysis and corrective measures taken in Log.

.6Test soil moisture monthly or at Minister's discretion and record in Log. Tests will be taken by Minister before and after watering.

1.4REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

.1Provide Minister with copies of permits and licenses required by regulatory authorities, including applicator's current chemical license number.

1.5DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

.1Handle plants with reasonable care and skill to prevent injuries to trunk, branches, stems, foliage, leaves and roots.

.2Deliver and store fertilizer in waterproof bags showing mass, analysis and name of manufacturer.

.2[Provide storage space] [Use storage space provided by Minister] for material and equipment.

.3Be responsible for the storage of chemicals.

1.6DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

.1Contractor shall repair and pay for damages caused by contractor's personnel and equipment during the term of the Contract.

.2Report damages immediately to Minister.

.3Obtain Minister's approval for repairs and replacements. Return plant materials, equipment and buildings to their original condition before damage.

.4Complete repairs and replacements within [seven] [] days from date of approval given for repair or replacement.

1.7MAINTENANCE PERIOD

.1Maintain interior plants from time of planting until [eight] [twelve] [] weeks after date of Interim Acceptance of the Work.

.1Fertilizer:according to [results from semiannual soil test] [and] [seasonal requirements].

3.Execution

3.1GENERAL WORKMANSHIP

.1Schedule timing of operations to use of building and to locations of plants in [offices] [or] [building].

.2Do each operation continuously and complete within [reasonable time period] [three days].

.3Provide [material] [and] [equipment] necessary for continuous maintenance to current acceptable horticultural standards.

.4Provide safety precautions while working in [public] [atrium] [] areas.

.5Cooperate with Minister. Maintenance practices may have to be altered to deal with program requirements.

.6Collect and dispose of excess material and debris offsite [daily] [weekly].

3.2PLANT MAINTENANCE

.1Watering:

.1Monitor moisture levels of individual plant species and provide adequate water supply by hand.

.2Supply water at 18°C by (surface) (and) (deep root) methods on large specimen trees in atrium.

.3Supply water at 18°C to individual potted specimens as required to maintain optimum level of moisture.

.2Cultivation of [Plant Beds] [and] [Planters]:

.1Cultivate upper 40mm of soil [weekly] [monthly].

.2Do not damage roots of plants.

.3Ensure planting surface is kept in neat, clean condition.

.4Collect and dispose of dead or unhealthy plants and foreign debris.

.3Fertilization Requirements:

.1Use balanced water soluble fertilizer to assure optimum plant growth.

.2Use balanced fertilizer recommended in soil analysis.

.3Adjust fertilizer application to individual requirements typical for species.

.4Pruning:

.1Perform pruning in accordance with Pruning Manual, Alberta Public Works, Supply and Services, 1984 Edition, available upon request, at no cost, from Minister.

.2Consult with Minister before pruning.

.3Observe and remove dead or unhealthy foliage and flowers at least once per week.

.5Leaching:

.1Leach potted plants every six months to prevent buildup of salts in soil.

.6Misting:

.1Mist plants between May 1 and October 31 [weekly] [].

.7Cleaning of Foliage:

.1Clean foliage thoroughly every six months with 18°C water. Methods can be syringing, power spraying or hand washing.

.2Do not use "plant shine".

.8Staking:

.1Keep stakes and guy wires taut and plants plumb [for duration of maintenance period] [].

.9Plant Replacement:

.1Promptly replace plants which require replacement under specified warranty.

.10Seasonal Plants:

.1Remove seasonal plants when seasonal requirements are satisfactorily completed.

3.3WEED, INSECT AND DISEASE CONTROL

.1General Considerations:

.1Ensure proper, positive identification of infestations and consult with Minister before taking corrective measure.

.2Before spraying, obtain written approval from Minister.

.3Determine susceptibility of plant species to chemical damage before any chemical application.

.4Use equipment and containers free of harmful residues not related to specific control measures applicable to situation.

.5Perform disease and insect control, when necessary, in accordance with Provincial chemical application regulations. Notify Minister of intent at least three days before any chemical application.

.6Prepare and apply chemical according to manufacturer's specifications. Minimize drift at all times.

.7Carry out treatment with due regard to climatic effect on surroundings and occupants of buildings.

.2Insect and Disease Control:

.1Make weekly inspection of plants and chemically control insect and disease infestations. Development stage of insects' life cycles shall determine dates of chemical applications.

.2Repair damage caused by application of chemicals.

.3Carry out appropriate control program by hand.

.4Effectiveness of treatment program to be determined by inspection by Minister. Repeat as required.

.5Record details of insect control measures in maintenance log.

3.4CLEAN-UP

.1Keep areas in clean and tidy condition, daily.

.2Clean hard surface and carpets after each maintenance operation.

.3Obtain Minister's approval for cleaning treatments required.

.4Report any vandalism or damage to Minister immediately. Record in maintenance log.
