7Definitions

Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities, and include health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to legislation, regulations, guidelines, standard operating procedures, manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.

GMS means gas measurement system.

Low capacity gas pressure control equipment excludes pilot-operated regulators, and active monitor and automatic stream selection configurations.

Meters in this unit standard means meters up to and including 25 cubic metres per hour.

Outcome 1

Describe the storage, handling, and transporting of low capacity gas meters and pressure control equipment.

Performance criteria

1.1Storage requirements for gas meters and pressure control equipment are described.

Rangepackaging, protection, position, orientation, environment, dust caps.

1.2Handling requirements for gas meters and pressure control equipment are described.

Rangevisual inspection, meter identification, packaging, protection, position, orientation, securing, seals, dust caps.

Outcome 2

Locate and identify procedures, documentation, and equipment for removing and installing low capacity meters and pressure control equipment.

Performance criteria

2.1Documentation and company procedures for removing and installing low capacity meters and pressure control equipment are located and interpreted according to specified job requirements.

2.2Job instructions are confirmed.

Rangeinstructions may include – site location, utility plans, mark-outs, consents, easements, meter install-change docket, customer liaison.

2.3Potential environmental and safety risks are identified.

2.4Types and function of meters and pressure control equipment, components, and materials are identified and described.

function – meter is registering gas, working pressure test, flow, lockup.

Outcome 3

Remove and install low capacity gas meters andpressure control equipment.

Performance criteria

3.1Safety and environmental risks are identified, and controlled.

Rangerisks may include – gas escape, fire, explosion, asphyxiation, other utilities, excavations;

controls may include – signage, barriers, personal protective equipment, safe access and egress, temporary traffic control, environmental protection, continuity bonds.

3.2Equipment and materials for removing and installing gas meters and pressure control equipment are prepared, handled and positioned.

3.3Meter, pressure control equipment, and appliances are isolated and shutdown.

3.4System specifications are applied to the equipment being installed.

3.5Meters and pressure control equipment are installed.

Rangemay include – GMS kit, seals, tags, signs.

Outcome 4

Complete reporting and documentation.

4.1Information is communicated to internal and external parties.
