Calverton Chorus Performs for Solomons Retirement Communities

HUNTINGTOWN, MD— With temperatures hovering near freezing, “Let It Snow” was a fitting musical selection in a heart-warming line-up of holiday songs performed by Calverton’s Lower School Chorus on Monday, December 8, 2009 at The Hermitage Retirement Center and Asbury~Solomons Island in Solomons, MD.

Armed with jingle bells and dressed in colorful hats and scarves, the Calverton singers from grades 3, 4, and 5 thrilled audiences with songs including “Sleigh Ride,” “Little Drummer Boy” and “Santa Clause is Comin’ to Town.” Audience members joined in singing traditional carols like “Joy to the World” and offered a collective sigh of praise when the chorus performed “Silent Night” in English, Spanish, and German.

Nancy Lehman, Cultural Arts and Volunteer Coordinatorat Asbury~Solomons Island, emphasized the importance of having children visit Asbury. “Kids bring a special joy, especially at this time of year. Many residents don’t get to see their grandchildren enough, so they’re delighted when young people come to visit.”

From the way the Calverton singers smiled, giggled, and jingle-bell-rocked their way through the holiday music, it was clear that they enjoyed the visit just as much as their audience members. The chorus is led by Lower School Music Director Diane Wood and Teacher Mary Margaret King.
