1. Bids for organising European championships

in 2010.
Federations are asked to prepare for giving bids to organise European championships in 2010.

Organising European championships give a lot of experience to people at national and local level strengthening the co-operation within the organisation.

Normally such an organisation will also give profit for the organiser if he is able to get support from the local government as well as sponsors.

Please fill in the form “Application for organising European championships” which can be loaded down from the EPF web or be ordered from the EPF GS Dietmar Wolf.

Send the form to Dietmar Wolf within 1 March 2007.

2. Sponsorship by EPF to national organisers of European championships.

The EPF Executive is working to improve the organisation of all Europeans. Steps to increase the technical standard are made from year to year and the target now is that at all Europeans it will be mandatory to provide IPF recognised stands, bars and plates in the warm up room as well as on the platform. This will give equal conditions to all lifters.

To help the organisers to provide only IPF approved equipment, the EPF Executive has established a “ Sport Development fund”. The part of the sanction fee collected by EPF at European championships has made this fund possible.

Besides, we have negotiated with two providers of IPF recognised stands, bars and plates and asked them to lower the prices to an absolute minimum on some “packages” of equipment.

Both ER Equipment and Eleiko Sport have been very forthcoming and the net prices are lowered from 35 to 48% on the different packages.

In addition, EPF will pay the organiser 50% of the net prices of the packages meaning that the organiser will pay slightly above a quarter of the normal price of the equipment he orders.
In addition the organiser must pay VAT and in some cases the transport.

All in all this should mean a very good offer to organisers of European championships to buy IPF recognised equipment of highest quality to a low price.

When a federation first has a full set of recognised equipment it will be easier to organise international championships in the future as the intention is that the equipment shall be used also at other international championships organised by the same federation.

A contract between the national federation and EPF to secure such future use of the equipment will be made.

All organisers of European championships for 2007 may apply to buy equipment under the condition of “EPF development fund”. But the fund is not infinite, so the EPF EC has the right to select which organisers will be accepted. The criteria will be that if a federation has difficulties to provide sufficient IPF approved equipment (not economy to buy in the ordinary way or lend from national clubs) this federation will be given priority.

To arrange the payment in a proper way for book keeping, the organisers pay the net price of the package to the manufacturer including VAT, package costs and in some cases the freight. When EPF is informed that the payment is made, EPF refund the agreed amount directly to the account of the national federation.

Below is the list of equipment packages and prices.

4. EuropeanMasters Bench Press.

This championship was organised in Frydek Mistec in CzechRepublic and the meet director was Vladimir Mati. Mati staged two excellent European championships in Prostejov (Open and Masters ) previous this year and again the championship was excellent organised.

This championship was moved from Ukraine to CzechRepublic on short notice and EPF appreciate that the Czech PF could take on the organisation and was able to present a very high technical standard.

Part of the success was that the Czech PF was the first federation to be supported by the “EPF development fund” to complete the number of IPF recognized stands in the warm up room and at the platform.

5. Greetings from the President.

This EPF Info will be the last one for 2006 and included in the last issue of the magazine “International Powerlifter”.

Dennis Unit has written, edited and issued this magazine for many years and done an invaluable contribution to make powerlifting known both in UK and later world wide when “International Powerlifter” became the IPF official magazine some years ago.

To issue such a good magazine year after year is really impressive and I dare not guess how many hours Dennis Unit needs to make one issue, but for sure the salary per hour is very, very low.His good work has all these years been based on enthusiasm and low for the powerlifting sport.

On behalf of the many readers and on behalf of EPF I thank sincerely Dennis for his indefatigable work to inform us about what is happening in the powerlifting sport – year after year!

We will miss his magazine.
Next year IPF will issue its own magazine and Dennis Unit will be the chief author.

The new initiative from the EC to establish an “EPF development fund” is now active. I really hope this will stimulate national federations to organise European championships - as we really need more organisers. This is a good opportunity to support high standard equipment to a very low price.

The EPF GS Dietmar Wolf looks forward to receive the form “Application for organising European championships in 2010” prior to the 2007 EPF Congress.
