3 Easy Ways to Repair Colour Damaged Hair

3 Easy Ways to Repair Colour Damaged Hair

Hi I’m Terry Wilson, Founder of Hair Organics. For over eight years we have been striving to bring our clients the most shiny, healthy, gorgeous hair.
As you probably know, what you put on your hair can create all sorts of problems, especially if it’s full of chemicals, which can compromise your health and the condition of your hair. That’s why I believe using the best ingredients is so important, and it’s why I started Hair Organics.
Thank you for requesting my 3 easy ways to repair colour damaged hair. I hope that you find this advice helps you and your hair.
The first one might seem super obvious but you’d be surprised at how many of my clients had been choosing the wrong products for years!
1) CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE
First a little bit of science...
Shampoo is obviously for cleansing the hair, it changes the ph to a more alkaline 8.5, which opens the hair cuticle and allows it to be cleansed. Conditioner is more of a cosmetic, it allows us to detangle our hair and also raises its ph back to around 4.5 which closes the cuticle and makes it feel smooth and silky.
With me so far?
So far the same for everyone, but the key thing to bear in mind when choosing your shampoo and conditioner are to choose the right one for your hair type.
Don’t worry it’s pretty simple, there are really only 2 different types of hair:
Normal to fine hair - which could be oily or
Dry, coarse thick hair.
You can’t have both!
So you only need to read one of these:
If you have normal to fine hair, with a tendency to break, split ends and no shine due to colour damage. Your hair needs PROTEIN!
Don’t make the mistake I’ve seen many of my clients make in choose a moisturising shampoo and conditioner. This will be too heavy for your hair.
It’s essential to choose a shampoo and conditioner that contain protein.
They will strengthen and thicken up your hair as well as closeing the cuticle to get maximum shine and more body.
Or if you have dry, coarse thick hair, you absolutely need a shampoo and conditioner with enough added moisturiser to give you the shine, manageability back into your hair. As long as you choose one with a name that implies moisturising - eg for dry hair, etc, then you can’t go wrong. Although having said that - as with most things in life, you do get what you pay for. Cheaper shampoos have less moisturisers in them, and are often filled with SLS (sodium laryl sulphate). It gives you a lovely foamy lather, but it can cause static in dry hair, which attracts dust quicker and means that your hair feels dirty more quickly.
2) FOR A MORE INTENSIVE FIX, I’D ALWAYS RECOMMEND
A TREATMENT
If you haven’t tried one of these before these are like the face pack of the hair world! They are gorgeously nourishing and colour damaged hair will really thank you for them!
If you want to see serious results you need to do this at least two to three times a week.
What! I could hardly do it once a month!
I can tell you putting the treatment on half an hour before you shampoo will save time, and do your hair a world of good.
It’s the same as before. If your hair is dry, coarse/thick it needs moisture.
If your hair is fine or weak it needs protein.
So slip, slop, slap this onto damp hair, wrap your head in cling film and then get on with your morning or day.
Half an hour is enough, then shampoo and condition. Your hair will absorb what it needs, and you should see an improvement pretty quickly.
We have some amazing treatments at Hair Organics, all our first time clients receive a complimentary treatment with their first service at the salon. And we also have some gorgeous take home treatments that you can use to continue the good work at home. 3) TAKE THE ENDS OFF
