3) Create a model and/or graphic illustrating the major metabolic pathways that are used to produce energy for the body. Write a narrative report explaining the chemical processes that occur at each stage in the pathway. Categorize each stage as an anabolic or a catabolic reaction, citing relevant evidence from academic or medical materials. Stages include: a. Glycolysis (p. 208 C-10) b. Kreb’s cycle c. Electron Transport (p. 213 p.215 C-14) d. Fermentation

As a group you and your professors will teach the class about one of the following Metabolic Pathways. You and your education team will need to become experts in the content so that you can convey the lesson to the class. You will need to complete a Lesson plan and submit it to me as part of the grading.

This content deals with biochemistry and is on a level that we have not had in this class thus far. It is up to you and your partners to break down this information into small easy to follow chunks.

Educator Teams:

  • 4 Groups
  • 5 People per team
  • Lead professors will be chosen and then they will create the rest of the team members.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  1. Detailed Lesson Plan
  2. Presentation of Content- multimedia option of choice: PowerPoint; Prezi; Video; Picktocharts
  3. Instructor Notes on your component of the lesson
  4. Class Activity
  5. Review Quiz- 10 questions that your group will administer and grade

Overall Goal:

Provide a breakdown of this very detailed information allowing the class to be able to see, hear, and explain the pathway, using language that is not as technical as originally presented.

Grading:

Team grades will come from the following:

Completed Lesson Plan
(Follows template, provided the outline of the entire lesson and states who will be working on each component) / 75 points
Class Notes and Presentation
(The multimedia product that delivers the class information, explains all components of the topic in an easy to understand format) / 100 points
Quiz Creation
(Displays a variety of question types from basic understanding to higher order thinking) / 25 points
Average Quiz Results
(Were the overall scores good and show understanding of the content or did they prove that there was some misunderstanding of the content?) / 10 points
Execution of Lesson Plan
(Everything and everyone complete the information that was outlined in the lesson plan) / 20 points
Class Activity
(What was done by the students to assist in the learning of the content?) / 50 points
Collaboration
(Working with your teammates to meet the above requirements, knows their responsibilities and is a true team player) / 20 points
Total Points Possible / 300 Points

Desired Outcomes:

To meet State Standards, each class member must be able to complete the following information about the 4 types of metabolic pathways.

Metabolic Stages / Model/Graphic / Explanation of Pathway / Anabolic/Catabolic
Glycolysis
Kreb’s Cycle
Electron Transport
Fermentation

Due Dates:

1/19/17 Teams Formed and begin individual background knowledge

1/24/17 Lesson Plans Submitted for feedback

1/26/17 Lesson(s) will be taught, be prepared will randomly choose the order of lessons
