Ontario is divided into catchment areas among the 5 University OT Programs:

  • University of Ottawa, Queen’s University (Kingston), University of Toronto, McMaster University (Hamilton) and University of Western Ontario (London)

Greater Toronto Area (University of Toronto catchment):

  • Includes “Oakville to Whitby and Newmarket to Lake Ontario” as per NFPS
  • Includes Halton, Peel, York, Durham Regions and the City of Toronto
  • Does not include Oshawa or east of Oshawa (Queen’s University catchment)
  • A request for GTA goes via McMaster Director of Clinical Education through National Fieldwork Placement Service (NFPS)
  • Students may ask for specific areas within GTA, however there is no guarantee a placement will be obtained in a precise area. NFPS will do the best job possible in securing a placement that meets students’ practice learning requirements for the University professional program.
  • Students who list all three placement locations in the Greater GTA restrict chances of obtaining a placement, due to high volume demand for these areas from across Canada.

British Columbia (University of British Columbia catchment):

  • Includes entire province, as well as Yukon Territories
  • A request for BC or Yukon goes via Director of Clinical Education through National Fieldwork Placement Service (NFPS)
  • Students may ask for specific areas of the province, however there is no guarantee a placement will be obtained in a precise area. NFPS will do the best job possible in securing a placement that meets students’ practice learning requirements for the University professional program.
  • Students who list all three placement locations in BC restricts chances of obtaining a placement, due to demand volume in these areas from across Canada

Province of Quebec:

  • Students can apply for placement in Quebec if they are fluently French / English bilingual
  • A request for Quebec goes via McMaster Director of Clinical Education through National Fieldwork Placement Service (NFPS)
  • Students may ask for specific areas within Quebec, however there is no guarantee a placement will be obtained in a precise area. NFPS will do the best job possible in securing a placement that meets students’ practice learning requirements for the University professional program.

Atlantic Provinces:

  • A request for Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island goes via McMaster Director of Clinical Education through National Fieldwork Placement Service (NFPS)
  • The New Brunswick stream works directly with the Director of Clinical Education at each university
  • Students may ask for specific areas of a province, however there is no guarantee a placement will be obtained in a precise area. NFPS will do the best job possible in securing a placement that meets students’ practice learning requirements for the University professional program.

Prairie Provinces:

  • A request for Alberta, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Inuvik and Saskatchewan goes via McMaster Director of Clinical Education through National Fieldwork Placement Service (NFPS)
  • Students may ask for specific areas of a province, however there is no guarantee a placement will be obtained in a precise area. NFPS will do the best job possible in securing a placement that meets students’ practice learning requirements for the University professional program.
