2Scott Robertson Award (Tej G)

  • Request for engineering society members to put in nominations
  • 1997 award started- 20th anniversary
  • Past winners of the awards will solicit nomination and go through a lengthy process of deliberation
  • Hoping to get previous Scott Robertson winners to attend banquet
  • Goes to a Graduating student- hard work spirit and leadership skills improving school- character throughout the school
  • No academic component to it- really about spirit and leadership
  • Celebrating unique people
  • Send email to Tej Gidda with nominations of people who you think embody Guelph Engineering and why

3Club Proposal (Murtaza B)

3.1Hyperloop

  • Elan Musk- new mode of transportation – bullet train type thing running in a vacuum- no rolling and air resistance – challenge put out to students
  • Califonia competition this year- Waterloo-> only Canadian team attending
  • Would like the club to be multidisciplinary
  • $10,000 budget- past experience with building- sponsorship can be solicited based on this previous experience to potentially pay for the cost of construction and transportation
  • Faculty advisor: potentially Mohammed Biglar-Begian
  • Charge People to be on team could be a potential source of income

4.1Welcome new members

  • Travis: new ES&C and computer representative

4.2Lounge space

  • Julia Hannah and Maddie- Anne MacDonald meeting- looking for space in SOE dedicated to wellness/not thinking about school
  • Looking at the lounge since space is limited
  • Bean bag chairs, Lego, coloring books, chalkboard advertising events
  • Have the OK from faculty to go ahead with this
  • Kindergarten type feel
  • Very low key
  • Stress students are dealing with and need to unwind is more important than the four tables in the eng soc lounge
  • Applying for $10,000 grant
  • Possibility of advertising board first- then tables and couches can be altered later
  • Multi step process

  • Dr. Runciman Facilitating

4.44th Year Feedback Session

  • Katherine Sorenson wants feedback from 3rd and 4th years March 8th 11:30 am-1:30pm
  • March 13th 4:30pm-6:30pm
  • Just show up
  • going over graduate attributes
  • Wants to know where curriculum can be improved

5VP Student Life Update (Julia F)

5.1Club presentations

  • 1-2 clubs a week will come to the eng soc meeting and will provide an update about how they are serving students

6VP Internal Update (Gavin P)

6.1AGM

  • AGM -March 8th 6:30PM-accountability- send out last semester’s power point
  • Mandatory for all eng soc members
  • Can make amendments to the constitution
  • Trouble with growing size of council/by proxy/by email :concider bringing up motions
  • Motion Jam/Brainstorm session-Salma will be sending out an email with times

6.2Elections and Awards

  • Voting or awards on Thursday for engineering society-class reps make announcements about awards voting
  • Year rep nominations due this Wednesday
  • Vienna can potentially put up posters advertising elections
  • Officer positions- date Changed-will be due (after AGM)on march 10th, interviews march 13th
  • Eng soc specific awards- nominate people this week awards include: eng soc MVP, eng soc most improvements to position, class of the ass
  • Elections-CSA elections- also comprises of o-week team- please go read their platforms as this will affect our o-week
  • Will affect our next fall

7VP External Update (Matthew C)

7.1Essco Essay Contest

  • Promoting the diverse engineer
  • 1st place prize is $500
  • April 30th, 2017 due date
  • Anything within engineering- (idea: wellness in engineering )
  • 3-7 pages

8VP Social Update (Stephanie W)

8.1Follow up on Blood Bus & ENGG Pub

  • Bloodbus- more than doubled clinics donation for the day- many first time donors

8.2Blood Bus round 2 – volunteers & dates

  • March 8th- wont be doing this day
  • Dates: weeks 9 or 10? Please vote tonight on Facebook
  • Eng Pub- if no other bills have come through-more than broke even
  • Will Continue event-made money on a horrible night- if made a traditional event could get a better discount on the hall
  • 170 people showed up
  • Hall is big must fill it up in the future

8.3Banquet Update

  • April 1st proposed date

8.4DUSTED

  • 5 schools talking together about doing this event
  • Promote Interschool bonding- don’t want the term dusted to be spread anymore- will change na,e
  • Must have 3 sober volunteers at least

9Athletics Officer Update(Galen W)

9.1Curling Bonspiel ticket sales

  • March 11th, advertisements set to go
  • Ticket sales will need to be done
  • $15- each-later this week/ next week
  • Lessons prior if you have never curled at 11 am the day of there will be a lesson

10O’Snap Update(Betty Z)

10.1March O’ Snap submission

  • Due next Wednesday
  • Mandatory as part of your role on eng soc
