Monday

(12:30-12:50) Comprehension Standard

Teacher will introduce the vocabulary words: folktale, fables, lesson, moral, theme, central message

Teacher will use the story Why The Sun and The Moon Live In The Sky,pg. 304 to teach students how to determine the central message. Teacher and students will read the story and answers the hot questions. Students and teacher will create an anchor chart. Students will come up with different actions and things that were said by the character. Teacher will write it on the anchor chart. Students will look at the different things written on the anchor chart and try to come up with the central message. Teacher will review with the students. Teacher and students will discuss the sequence of the story.

(12:50-1:00) Shared Day 2/Word-Work Study Voc. –Shared Poem: Tense Times With Verbs. Teacher and students will read the poem as a whole group. Students will circle the correct past tense verbs. Teacher and students will review the words.

Students will begin reading their chapter books. Teacher will check for student understanding by having a conference with each student.

1:40-2:00 Read Aloud-Teachers will use a teacher’s choice to read a chapter book series and or folktales/fables.

Teacher will use the story The Magic Goose to continue teaching students how to determine the central message. Teacher and students will read the story and answers. Students will write the central message on their papers. Teacher and students will discuss the sequence of the story.

Teachers will explain that when readers become experts on series books, they read a lot of books in a series they especially collect knowledge about the characters who are the stars of the series.

Teacher and students will discuss the sequence of the story.

Teachers will explain that the way a person responds to trouble says a lot about who that person is. The way a person responds to trouble or problems gives clues as to what kind of person they are.

Students will write the moral/lesson on their papers. Students will use two different colored crayons on crayon to determine the moral/lesson and another crayon to determine what sentence supports the moral/lesson. On a half sheet of paper students will complete a BME to recount the story for a class grade.

Teachers will explain that the when we read a bunch of books across a series, sometimes you’ll notice things about the character that are the same in book after book.
