Winter Party
2nd Grade Lesson Plan
Games:
- Ice Skating Relay –Divide the children into two teams. The first team member will put two tissue boxes covered in duct tape on their feet. They will race down to a given point, sit on a balloon, and race back. The next person in line will then go, etc.
Supplies: tissue boxes covered in duct tape (see 2nd grade party bin), 100 balloons (you will want to inflate these prior to the party)
- Pine Tree Bowling –Divide the class into two lines. Set up six pine trees in the shape of a triangle in front of each line of students. You can buy 6-8” high trees at a hobby store or place a cut out paper tree on the front of empty water bottles. Have each child attempt knocking down all the trees with a small ball. Two tries each, just like in real bowling. Repeat and see if they can do better on their second turn.
Supplies: Twelve small pine trees (See 2nd grade party bin for 6 of the 12), two “bowling” balls, two adults to help set up pins and supervise, masking tape to designate starting line.
Craft: Bagel BirdFeeder
Instructions:
Give each child a half a stale bagel, a 24" long piece of ribbon or string and a Ziploc bag large enough to put the bagel inside. First, have the students write their names with permanent marker on the Ziploc bag. Next, have them lace the string through the bagel hole and tie a knot. Then, have the students spread shortening on the flat side of the bagel using a popsicle stick. Finally, the students will press the shortening side of the bagel into a large pan of bird seed making sure to cover all the wet shortening. The bird feeders get put into the baggies and can be hung from a tree when they get home.
Supplies (per class of 25): 25 ziploc bags, 25 bagel halves, 25 pieces of ribbon or sting cut 24” long, 25 popsicle sticks, one container spreadable shortening, one bag of bird seed, black permanent markers (Check with the teacher for this item.)
Snack: Build a Snowman
Give each student a plate with a spoon of vanilla frosting, a popsicle stick for spreading, 2-3 large marshmallows, 2 carrots, a small bunch of pretzel sticks and a small bunch of m&ms. Using the frosting as glue they will attempt to construct a snowman that they can then eat!
Supplies: (per class of 25)
1 bag pretzel sticks 1 bag large marshmallows
1 bag mini carrots 1 bag plain m&ms
1 can vanilla frosting 25 popsicle sticks
25 plates and napkins 25 small water bottles
