Cellular Respiration-Web Quest

The goal of this web quest is to learn to use multiple sources of information from the internet to research an idea. The questions below require a minimal to moderate amount of time to cover. I don't expect you to read over each and every part of each site that I send you to. Still, it is a quest in the fact that I am asking that you locate information from these sites, and some of this information is not going to be right in front of you. Thus, it might take you a few minutes to find what you are looking for. Don't spend more than 10 minutes at any one site. Some sites should take you no more than a minute or two.

A)

1A) In your own words, what is ATP?

2A) Draw a picture of the ATP molecule on your paper.

3A) Now draw the simplified picture (do you remember from Chapter 8).

B)

1B) Write the equation for cellular respiration.

C)

1C) What are the three steps of cellular respiration?

2C) List an alternative to cellular respiration.

D)

1D) Click on Concept 1. Where do each of the 3 steps of cellular respiration take place?

2D) Click on Concept 2. In your words, what is glycolysis?

3D) Click on Concept 3 and answer the following:

Where in the cell do you think the pyruvate is coming from?

This is a step in respiration, therefore, what do you think happens to the carbon dioxide after it forms?

What happens to the energy released from breaking bonds?

4D) Click on Concept 4 and answer the following:

How many ATP are produced from every NADH?

How many ATP are produced from every FADH2?

In what organelle does the electron transport chain take place?

What macromolecules are needed for the electron transport chain?

E)

1E) Draw the structure of a mitochondria and label the parts.

2E) Describe each part (that you labeled) and its major function/purpose/behavior.

F)

1F) How does the respiration reaction compare to the photosynthesis reaction?

2F) Write the photosynthesis reaction (based on what you stated in 1E).

3F) What does glycolysis mean?

4FHow many ATP'sNADH's are produced from Glycolysis?

5F) How many ATP's, NADH's, & FADH2's are produced from the Krebs Cycle?

6F) How many ATP's are produced from the electron transport chain?

G)-and-

1G) What is the difference between ethanol fermentation and lactic acid fermentation?

2G) Use the Fermentation Tutorial. How do bacteria survive without oxygen? Explain what anaerobic respiration means.

H)

1H) How many total ATP's are produced from cellular respiration? (hint-Start searching from the bottom of the page)

2H) What is another name for the Kreb’s Cycle?

3H) What is the final electron acceptor in the Electron Transport Chain?

4H) What enzyme makes ATP?
