2 Definitions
Company procedures refer to documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, manufacturer’s instructions, or policy statements.
Job specifications may include written and oral direction for specific tasks, standard procedures documented in company quality manuals, and technical procedures for specific materials or equipment.
Site safety plan refers to the documented safety plan required by law to ensure the site complies with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and its subsequent amendments.
Oversize plant refers to those items that do not fit inside a blast booth.

Outcome 1
Apply protective coating to a fixed structure or oversize plant at an exterior site.
Evidence requirements
1.1 Personal protective equipment for protective coating operations is fitted and worn in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company procedures.
Range may include but is not limited to – safety boots, overalls, respiratory protection, hearing protection, gloves.
1.2 Protective coating equipment is set up in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and site safety plan.
1.3 A fixed structure or oversize plant is spray coated in accordance with job specifications.
1.4 Respiratory protection is used during operations until air contamination is reduced to workable level in accordance with the site safety plan.
1.5 Safe operations are demonstrated at exterior site in terms of ensuring the safety of site personnel.
Range operator is aware of other personnel in the area at all times; equipment is secured against falling; coating operations are kept apart from other operations at all times.
1.6 Protective coating is performed in accordance with the site safety plan, permit, and company procedures.
1.7 Materials and equipment are handled safely in accordance with Safety Data Sheets, manufacturer’s instructions, and company procedures.
Range includes but is not limited to – compressed air equipment, wet coatings, thinners.
1.8 Equipment and products are stored at the end of the operation in accordance with the site safety plan and company procedures.
1.9 Site safety is monitored and documented in accordance with company procedures and the site safety plan.
1.10 Waste materials are collected and disposed of in accordance with, site requirements, company procedures, and local authority disposal requirements.
