December 22, 2016 2017 League
- All games will begin with prayer. Prayer will be led by team designated as home.
- The purpose of this league is for fellowship and fun. No one will be able to retire by winning the New Beginnings Volleyball league.
- Since this is a church league we ask that we be respectful of attire. Shorts worn should NOT be the traditional volleyball uniform worn by most schools (very short). Please remember that and keep them well below mid-thigh. Tank tops (without an undershirt) can also be too revealing.
- We will do our best to be fair and consistent in applying the rules; however, we will not be perfect. Please understand we are doing our best.
- Line judges will not be supplied. If the official cannot see clearly and the teams cannot reach consensus on whether a ball was in or out, the official will order the play redone.
- Each team may be responsible for supplying someone to officiate at least one match each Saturday.
- Co-ed recreational league—at least 2 women on the team. If only one woman on the court, only three men can play.
- If two or more hits are used to return the ball to the opposing team, a woman must have hit the ball at least one time.
- You may only hit the ball once before another player touches the ball. In other words, the ball cannot hit your body and then be hit by you. Ex., The ball hits your shoulder before or after contacting your hands or arms. This would be considered two hits.
- The ball must be hit by hands and arms. Kicking, hitting the ball with your head, etc., will cost your team the point.
- Only three hits allowed returning the ball to the opposing team.
- You are not allowed to go under the net with any part of your body during play.
- You can play ball off backboards if it is hit by your team. If the other team hits into backboard on your side of the court, it will be considered out of bounds.
- Ball may be played off of the ceiling if hit by your team. If the ball touches the ceiling on its way to the other team, it will be considered out of bounds.
- During a serve, your foot may not land inbounds prior to ball leaving your hands.
- If the ball is hit to your side of the net by the opposing team you may break the plane of the net in returning the ball (provided ball was hit on your side). However, if the ball is still in play on the opposing side, you cannot break the plane of the net.
- Rally scoring will be employed. One team will score a point on every serve.
- Two timeouts per game of 60 seconds may be used.
- If any portion of the ball touches the line, the ball is considered inbounds.
- Best 2 out of 3 games win the match.
- First two games will go to 25 points. Must win by 2 or first one to 30. If a third game is necessary, it will be first one to fifteen.
- Minimum age of 13 (w/o approval).
- Nohard spiking will be allowed.*
- Nohard overhand serving will be allowed. *
- When receiving ball during a serve, “attacking” ball with hard downward (or not upward hit will not be allowed. The ball can be returned with a set type motion or a bump.
- No back row player can “spike” in front of the 10-foot line.
- Carrying the ball will be called if intentional and for advantage.
- The games will be held on primarily on Saturday mornings/afternoons. between 9:40 to 3:00 (subject to adjustment)
- Entry fee is $100 per team. We ask that you pay your fees promptly.
- Team members will be required to attend church at least twice a month.
- You may combine with another church to form a team.
- We are currently planning for games to begin on Saturday, January 7,2016. A final tournament is currently planned to in March ?? (not set yet – depends on number of teams in league) (snow can change season length as well).
- To be eligible to play in the tournament, team members must play in at least six (6) matches (approx. half) during the regular season.
- Concessions will be available.
- Each team is responsible for supplying a contact person, preferably with ready access to email. This will greatly aid in communicating cancellations, etc.
- Website will post scores, etc. FACEBOOK may be used too. -
League will be formed/scheduled no later than January 6 – number of teams and any date exceptions or time exceptions need to be communicated to the league by then.

* - Purpose of league is for recreational fun, spiritual fellowship, inviting friends to spend time with us (on the court and in church), etc. It is not to develop into Pro Players, nor is it to beat down opposing players. So the underlying principle is for us to show good TEAMWORK and FINESE in lieu of overpowering weak individuals on the other side by hard rocket serves and spikes. Having said that – I expect and desire good hard competition and work to demonstrate good strong skills. We can do that while having a good time and conducting with good Christian attitudes and actions.
Monies gained through this endeavor have been traditionally used for our youth groups. Funds raised this year will go to help the youth group.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. - 2 Corinthians 5:17
