Purpose / This unit standard is for experienced people working in the area of kitchen or bathroom design and planning.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: record kitchen or bathroom measurements; record kitchen or bathroom information; produce kitchen or bathroom design calculations; and check kitchen or bathroom design calculations.

2Legislation that applies to this unit standard includes – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

3Definitions

Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements.

Client – refers to the person who has commissioned the design brief.

Kitchen or bathroom design brief – refers to the design parameters agreed between the kitchen or bathroom designer and the client.

4Evidence is required of a minimum of two different kitchen or bathroom design calculations.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Record kitchen or bathroom measurements.

Evidence requirements

1.1The area to be measured is identified in accordance with the kitchen or bathroom design brief.

1.2The measuring instruments are selected to meet the requirements of the kitchen or bathroom area to be measured.

Rangemeasuring instruments may include but are not limited to – rule, tape measure, laser measure.

Outcome 2

Record kitchen or bathroom information.

Rangerecording may include but is not limited to – drawing, video, photographs.

Evidence requirements

2.1The area, details, objects, and spaces in the kitchen or bathroom are identified in accordance with the kitchen or bathroom design brief.

2.2Viewing positions are selected in terms of angles, distance and height.

2.3Equipment required to record the information is selected in accordance with the kitchen or bathroom design brief and worksite requirements.

2.4Physical parameters of the kitchen or bathroom are measured in accordance with the kitchen or bathroom design brief and worksite requirements.

2.5Information and measurements are recorded and meet the requirements of the kitchen or bathroom design brief.

2.6Kitchen or bathroom measurements are checked in terms of previous surveys and the immediate survey.

Outcome 3

Produce kitchen or bathroom design calculations.

Evidence requirements

3.1Calculation needs are identified in accordance with the kitchen or bathroom design brief.

Rangecalculation needs may include but are not limited to – material strength, quantity, structure.

3.2Preliminary calculations are completed in accordance with the kitchen or bathroom design brief and worksite requirements.

Outcome 4

Check kitchen or bathroom design calculations.

Evidence requirements

4.1The level of accuracy of the calculations is established in accordance with the requirements of the kitchen or bathroom design brief.

4.2The calculations conform to the kitchen or bathroom design brief.

4.3The outcome of the kitchen or bathroom calculations is approved by the client in accordance with worksite requirements.
