Guidance Information

1 Candidates being assessed against this unit standard must demonstrate safe working practices at all times. These may include but are not limited to safe working practices in situations involving – working at heights, working with electricity, lifting, securing equipment safely, replacing and storing equipment, use of tools, use of supplied safety equipment. Evidence of this may be provided by a teacher/tutor attestation or candidate’s reflective statement. A useful reference for safe working practice is the Entertainment Technology New Zealand publication A Guide for Safe Working Practices in the New Zealand Theatre and Entertainment Industry, 2011, which can be accessed at http://www.etnz.org.

3 Range

A specified production role may include but is not limited to – Assistant Stage Manager, Theatre Mechanist (stagehand), dresser, usher, floor LX, roadie, follow spot operator, lighting technician, sound operator, front of house, costume assistant, AV operator.

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Identify the practical requirements of a specified production role.

Performance criteria

1.1 Specified production role is identified and described in terms of the tasks, responsibilities and relationships.

Range tasks, responsibilities and relationships may include but are not limited to – the production team, lines of responsibility, production process, production timeline, the text.

Outcome 2

Participate in a performing arts production by undertaking a specified production role.

Performance criteria

2.1 Tasks and responsibilities are undertaken at all scheduled rehearsals and performances in accordance with the requirements of the production.
