LISBURN ZONE September 2017
Dear Secretary
As the short mat season is about to commence, I wish to inform you of what is happening in Lisburn Zone.
National Championships.
This year we are continuing the format of running the heats in various halls around the zone.
Entries must be received by the deadlines stated. Skips name’s and times will be posted on the Zone website within a couple of days. Please see attached forms for entry deadlines, dates and locations. Individual clubs may wish to provide and sell light refreshments for their own club funds.
Charity Competition
We are very grateful once again to Denis Wilson Tools, Glenavy, and Hyde Air Park, for continued sponsorship. The chosen charities this year are Angel Wishes and Seymour Hill Horticiultural Unit and I hope that as in previous years your club will be generous. Rules and a draw sheet are enclosed and I would remind clubs that their matches must be played by the given deadlines. I would also ask that the enclosed bios of the charities are read out at each charity match.
Zone Championships
The Zone Championships continue to provide an excellent forum for bowlers who do not enter tournaments regularly. It’s to be encouraged for players to team up with those from other clubs for the mixed competitions. Thanks again to Roy Kennedy Fuels Ltd for continuing to provide valuable sponsorship. Entry forms enclosed and players are reminded to have their entries in by the deadlines. A substitute entry form is also available on the website.
Zone Teams
All clubs afiliated to the Zone are asked to submit names of players (men and women) who would be willing to be considered for inclusion on the Zone teams for Inter-zone matches. Names should be submitted to myself by 30th September 2017.
Zone Website
The Zone website www.lisburnzonebowls.org is now the primary channel of communication with clubs regarding Zone and League matters. Our grateful thanks go to Patricia Halliday for maintaining the website on a regular basis.
Fund Raising
Zone funds currently do not provide favourable scrutiny. To address this the Committee are organizing fund raising activities, commencing with a 'Fire Side Quiz' and a 'Night at the Races'.
I would ask that you encourage your members to support these please. (Details enclosed)
Club Championship
In addition to the competition in its original format, the IIBA have introduced a competition for non league/cup winners. This is open to any Club and provides a forum for your members to play at Shaws Bridge on Sat 11th November 2017. An entry form is enclosed.
In conclusion can I wish you and your membership good health to enjoy another season of Short Mat Bowls.
