3Definitions

Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to legislation, regulations, guidelines, standard operating procedures, manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Industry best practicerefers to those practices which competent practitioners within the industry recognise as current industry best practice. These may be documented in management plans, company procedures, managers’ rules, occupational health and safety policy, industry guidelines, codes of practice, manufacturers’ instructions, and safe working and/or job procedures (or equivalent).

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Determine maintenance requirements for conveyors at an extractive site.

Performance criteria

1.1Maintenance requirements are determined for conveyors in accordance with manufacturer's instructions or onsite requirements related to the construction of the conveyors.

Outcome 2

Describe hazards associated with the maintenance of conveyors at an extractive site.

Rangemust include but are not limited to – nip/pinch points, stored energy, fire, moving parts, falling objects, working at heights, poor housekeeping, unplanned movement, inappropriate use of equipment.

Performance criteria

2.1Significant hazards associated with the maintenance of conveyors are described.

2.2Methods of controlling hazards are described in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.

Rangeincludes but is not limited to – isolation and lock-out procedures.

Outcome 3

Carry out maintenance on conveyors at an extractive site.

Performance criteria

3.1Isolation and lock-out procedures are carried out in accordance with industry best practiceand company procedures.

Rangeenergy source isolation, roll back prevention.

3.2The work area is prepared in readiness for maintenance work to be carried out.

3.3Maintenance is carried out on conveyors in accordance with identified requirements, manufacturer's instructions, industry best practice,and company procedures.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – lubrication points, changing screen media, skirting, belt joining, housekeeping, use of appropriate tools and equipment.

Outcome 4

Track and tension belts on conveyors at an extractive site.

Performance criteria

4.1Belts are tracked and tensioned on conveyors safely in accordance with industry best practiceand company procedures.

Rangemay include but are not limited to – size of product, condition of product, wet or dry conditions, wear and tear, housekeeping, guarding.

4.2The belt is given a test run to ensure the tracking and tension is correct in accordance with company procedures.

Outcome 5

Restore conveyors to operational status at an extractive site and complete documentation relevant to maintenance of conveyors.

Performance criteria

5.1Isolation and lock-out devices are removed and conveyors are restored to operational status in accordance with industry best practiceand company procedures.

5.2Documentation for maintenance of conveyors is completed in accordance with industry best practiceand company procedures.
