~Over 24,000 people annually participate in Gate River Run mega-event. For the 24thconsecutive year the race has been selected to host the USA 15K National Championship, and attracts a world-class field. With more than $65,000 in prize money, the race has the largest U.S. purse outside of a major marathon or half marathon. For the 14th year the Equalizer Bonus will award $5,000 to the first male or female to cross the finish line. Top-seeded women will begin 6 minutes before the men, the race average historical time difference.

The Downhill Mile Challenge awards $1,000 prize to fastest male and female in the last mile of the course.

~The race finishes with a 200 meter straightaway off the Hart Bridge on the north side of the Stadium.

~Again this year 5,000 runners who qualify for a seeded number will start close to the front in four zones.

~ Live runner tracking will be available during the race via the 1st Place Sports app (a free download from iTunes or Google Play). Live results during the race will be available on , at news4jax.com and from the 5K, 10K and finish line timing points.

~Fourteen local charities benefit from the Times-Union Walk/Run For Charity.

Both the Men’s and Women’s 15K American course records were set here: 2014 Shalane Flanagan 47:02; and 5-time champion Todd Williams in 1995, 42:22; plus Masters record by Colleen DeReuck in 2004.

COURSEThe race starts on Gator Bowl Blvd. and finishes on the north side of the Stadium.The Publix post-race party will be held at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. The course is a scenic route showcasing the city of Jacksonville and Runners World Magazine annually selects it as one of the top races in the nation. Twelve bands will entertain along the race route.

EXPOA large 3-day Runners’ Expo will be held at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds March 9 - 11, admission is free and open to the public. Expo hours: Thurs. 11am – 6pm, Fri. 11am – 8pm, Sat. 8am – 12 noon.

40th YEAR EVENTS:The week will kick off with an evening Retro River Run 5K atthe Jacksonville Landing on Sat., Mar. 4.

Also a special “40 Days of GATE RIVER RUN” event will feature a scavenger hunt-type contest with daily prizes for those who can locate a city-wide moving race display, with clues posted on social media
