PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Heraeus Metal Processing, LLC - Santa Fe Springs, CA

PRODUCTION MANAGER/Metal Organic Compounds (MOC)/R&D MANAGER

Responsible for overseeing the production of organometallic compounds. Consistently maintain a low work in progress and stock. Effectively handle scheduling and production planning including managing a team of 3 in daily operations.

Conduct interviews, hire, train and supervise staff. Prepare and provide monthly updates regarding product yields, WIP and delivery timelines for senior management and worldwide business unit managers. Regularly participate in market report preparation, hazard assessments, group meetings, international conference calls and various technical presentations and meetings.

Travel to client locations and resolve any quality related issues including conducting intense investigations. Direct bi-monthly safety meetings and ensure accuracy and efficiency in completing all projects.

As R&D Manager, oversee Ph.D. level chemist and serve as primary liaison with sales/marketing. Assess market demand and company resources to determine feasibility of pursing R&D projects requiring capital expenditures. Collaborate with the Global Head of R&D of the parent company in Germany to share information and not double efforts.

  • Created a method to effectively recycle rhodium.
  • Efficiently streamlined the transfer of R&D technology to production.
  • Co-signer of certificates of analysis (CoA) and conduct final quality inspections on CP/ MOC shipments.
  • Advise on capital purchases and maintain ISO 9001 and 14001 Certifications.
  • Active member of an interdepartmental team which successfully improved plant safety and awareness. (2009 to Present)

R&D CHEMIST SUPERVISOR/TECHNICAL MANAGER/Chemical Products

Performed hiring and training as well as supervision of technical staff in addition to R&D Chemist responsibilities. Worked closely with the Quality Manager in resolving any CP/MOC customer complaints as well as internal issues. Effectively worked together to improve production yields.

  • Directly accountable for developing a silver impregnated resin process.
  • Interacted closely with engineering throughout the production scale-up from a pilot plant.
  • Implemented the viable production of silver compounds at this site. (2008 to 2009)

R&D CHEMIST/Chemical Products (CP)

Designed high yield, green syntheses for new precious metal inorganic/organometallic compounds. Ensured laboratory and industrial scale levels. Provided technical support to chemical products and metal organic compounds departments and handled troubleshooting, pilot plant and product management duties as well.

Wrote SOPs and POPs for analytical lab as well as CP/MOC, MSDS and HAZOPs. Effectively refined and revised current processes including developing methods to recycle precious metals from chemical waste while successfully minimizing losses to refining.

  • Effectively improved Pt(acac)2 process while achieving yields >95% which was a significant improvement from literature methods. Instrumental in improving the EBIT by 20% and wrote a patent.
  • Promoted camaraderie within the plant as a member of the Heraeus Activities Committee. Organized a variety of food and toy drives. (2006 to 2008)

Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University - College Station, TX

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT/Dr. Marcetta Y. Darensbourg

Developed nickel dithiolate complexes (NiN2S2) as a new class of ligands. Also expanded the units by exploiting use as bidentate bridging metalloligands to multiply-bonded dimetal units. Devised polymetallic analogs to ruthenium tris-bipyridyl complexes. Helped define the electrochemistry of metal complexes containing multiple redox active centers.

  • Worked as an Instructor’s Assistant for Dr. Vickie M. Williamson in General Chemistry and a Teaching Assistant for Dr. Marcetta Y. Darensbourg in Advanced Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory.
  • Mentored prospective graduate students and research group members.
  • Served as the group crystallographer and electrochemist including training two students to be independent crystallographers. (2003 to 2006)

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT/Dr. F. Albert Cotton

Conducted research and synthesized new polypyridylamine ligands and metal complexes to be used as molecular wires. Directly accountable for supplementing the study of quadruply-bonded dichromium and ditungsten dipyridylformamidinate complexes.

  • Began as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in 2000. (2001 to 2003)
