ITINERARY

We are hoping that you will join us on this year’s 150th Anniversary charity sponsored walk and to remind you to get into training, service your walking boots, check your waterproofs, make a note of the date and encourage friends and colleagues to accompany you to help raise funds for Barnardo’s Cymru.

If anyone is not able to collect sponsorship, we respectfully ask that the make a suggested donation of at least £20 on the day to contribute to the cost of arranging this charity event.

BARMOUTH WALK 2016 WEEKEND ITINERARY - FRIDAY P.M. 14TH OCTOBER 2016

Arrive in Barmouth or surrounding area. A list of accommodation (discounted prices for Barnardo’s walkers) can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre, Station Road, Barmouth, LL42 1LU.

The organisers of the sponsored walk, marshals and helpers will “rendezvous” from 7.00 p.m. on Friday evening until 9.30 p.m. at The Last Inn in Barmouth where detailed walk instructions and route maps will be available. Please try to register and collect the information on Friday to save congestion at the start on Saturday. Walkers unable to attend Friday evening will be able to obtain details from walk controllers prior to the walk on Saturday morning at Talbot Square, Barmouth. IF FOR ANY REASON YOU CANNOT WALK ON SATURDAY AFTER REGISTERING AND COLLECTING TOKENS ON FRIDAY, PLEASE NOTIFY US SO THAT WE WILL NOT BE SEARCHING FOR YOU ON THE MOUNTAINS.

SATURDAY A.M. 15th OCTOBER 2016

Assemble in Talbot Square, Barmouth LL42 1LE at 8.00 – 8.15 a.m. for a prompt 8.30 a.m. start of the fundraising walk which will follow a route on the east side of Diffwys Ridge and over Bwlch-y-Rhiwgyr to 1st Rest Station. It will then carry on down through Cerrig-y-Cledd forest, past the sword stone and on down past Bwlch-yr-Ysgol to Bontddu for lunch break, Rest Station 2.

From Bontddu the route continues on up through Bryntirion Woods following the river Hirgwn to Banc-y-Fran and then on down to small pool in Cae-mur Hywel forest to Rest Station 3.

The route then continues onwards down forest track to Goetre-Isaf and on up to Sylfaen to Cerrig Arthur (stone circle) and finally on down high track above the WT mast, with fantastic views of the Mawddach estuary and down the ridge, past the climbing slabs and the Frenchman’s grave and on down to the Last Inn PH in Barmouth.

Walkers can complete 5, 10, 15 or 20 miles and are free to stroll at their own pace. Join us and enjoy a picturesque route with magnificent views of the Welsh mountains. We require all walkers to be pre-registered and this will also allow time for sponsorship to be raised as well.

Lark and Peter Davies have kindly agreed to take on the role of co-ordinators again so will be organising this year’s event with the help of Barmouth Walk Life President Stan Taylor and his wife Sue.

The Ladies of the Barmouth Barnardos helper group will be kindly helping on the day at the rest stations with refreshments and homemade cake.

SAFETY INFORMATION

All walkers are advised to carry adequate food and drink for personal requirements between rest stations and lunch break at Bontddu (at the Halfway Public House if it has been re-opened or at Bontddu Village Hall). They should carry suitable waterproofs, warm clothing and wear sensible footwear (preferably walking boots). As a safety precaution all walkers will be issued with four coloured numbered discs and one white disc, the white disc to be handed in at the start of the walk and the green, yellow, blue and red to be handed to the marshals at each rest station and on completion of the walk at the Last Inn, Barmouth LL42 1EL.

Transport will be available at all rest stations for emergency purposes, e.g. walkers wishing to retire or walkers in need of first aid. Please note that is in the interest of any retiring walker to inform a marshal of transport requirements on arrival at rest or marshal stations.

By popular request from past and regular Barnardo’s sponsored walkers, marshals and local organisers, a three course set meal has been arranged for Saturday evening, 7.30 p.m. for dining at 8.00 p.m., at a cost of £20.00 per head.
