Purpose / This theory-based unit standard introduces people who have recently started work in the industrial textile fabrication industry to general legislative and safety requirements. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: legislation applicable to the industrial textile fabrication industry; and health and safety in the workplace.

Explanatory notes

1Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Fair Trading Act 1986; Consumer Guarantees Act 1993; and replacements.

2Definition

Company procedures refer to all documented policies and procedures of the candidate’s employer at the time of training including, but not limited to, those relating to health, safety, environment, quality, and operations.

Outcome 1

Demonstrate knowledge of legislation applicable to the industrial textile fabrication industry.

Evidence requirements

1.1Legislation applicable to the industrial textile fabrication industry is identified in terms of its application.

1.2Acts relating to the protection of the consumer are identified.

2.1Good work habits as they relate to health and safety practices in the workplace are described in accordance with company procedures.

2.2Health and safety requirements in the workplace are described in accordance with legislative requirements.

Rangeworkplace hazards, housekeeping, ergonomics, occupational overuse syndrome, material handling.

2.3How the storage, use, and disposal of hazardous substances are managed in the workplace is described in accordance with legislative requirements.

2.4The impacts of industry standards as they relate to health and safety practices are identified in accordance with legislative requirements.
